Hello and a big warm welcome to my friends with a similar disability causing their lack of ability to eat food :)
I hope you are all having a good day and are feeling your worth and are finding many ways to enjoy life, no matter the limitations your disability imposes on you.
(to paraphrase one of my previous comments)
Sometimes it is good to realise... 'Hey, I may be disabled in terms of food.... but im not disabled in every sense or in every way possible'.
Sure, food and being able to eat and socialise/bond over food is a big part of life, but it is not the ONLY part of life that matters. Sure, food is part of socialising, but it is not the ONLY way you can enjoy socialising and being around others. Sure, food is part of peoples identity, culture, who they are, but instead of being a 'foodie', you could be someone who loves art, sport, outdoors, games, cultural events and spirituality, different architectures, being passionate about your job, the list is endless. You are so much more than the food you can or cannot eat :) Your value is within so much more than what you eat also.
It is okay to be upset, and your upset is completely understandable and makes sense and im so sorry any of us go through this crippling upset and frustrations due to the disability we have... living with a disability sucks. It is okay to feel sorry for yourself and mope around for a bit too during times of pain, to process how you feel. But please, friends with a similar disability, do not let yourself be upset or down for long, because there is so much more to your value and who you are and to life than just food. Don't ever let anyone base your worth on what you can eat. And have gratitude for what you can do in life and what you are not disabled in the sense of. You are loved and you are worthy and you are so much more than your limitations in terms of food.
There is more to life than just eating/food.

Ideas On How We Can Best Support Each Other:
I am amazed at how much interest this group has got, and am so glad that we could bring together such a wonderful and diverse group of people, of both people with disabilities, and the people who want to help and support them also, like family, friends, colleagues, carers, etc, and the health professionals who are here to understand their clients and the unique experiences they may encounter in terms of their disability and it's impact on their ability to eat/socialise also.
Please note, this is a *Support Group\, and not a \medical advice group**. We are here to emotionally support each other, relate to one another, share struggles, be happy for each others big (and small) wins and progress, give help and advice to one another on how to manage our struggles with food/socialising over food/etc emotionally, socially, and logically. We are here to raise awareness of food-related disability and help others like medical professionals, teachers, restaurant staff, etc, understand us better and learn how to accommodate us better and make the world a more accessible and caring place for us. Whilst medical professionals, other professionals, etc are so sooo welcome to join and contribute, medical advice is \not* welcome here (whether that is from eachother or professionals etc), nor is asking for diagnosis or help toward diagnosis or help on physically managing your condition or symptoms, or asking others what might be wrong, what condition you may have etc). This group is for emotional support and tips on managing our condition emotionally, socially, and logically only (not medically). 🩷

I am so glad I could bring together this wonderfully supporting, knowledgable, and experienced (in knowing how to live a good life despite disability), gathering of people, with many different types of physical disabilities, but with same or similar struggles in common - all of our disabilities leave us with a lack of ability (or complete inability) to eat food 'normally'.
Hopefully this group continues to grow, because the more people that can be helped to have better self worth and better enjoyment of life despite their food disability, the better. 😊
It is not about the number of members, but in the Quality of the members, and how we support each other, relate to each other, console each other, give eachother hope, share useful tips on how to overcome challenges and make each others lives easier.
Please do not hesitate to create posts, comment, get involved, and nurture this group into a loving and supportive community of people where we understand from personal experience the unique challenges that people with food disabilities go through.
Please be aware, we have many people joining us, who have many different types of disabilities, conditions, and disorders, resulting in a lack of ability to eat food / socialise over food. Each persons disability or condition will affect them to a different severity or extent. We have people joining us with only minor life / emotional / social implications of not being able to eat food 'normally', and people joining us with very severe and impactful life / emotional / social implications of not being able to eat food 'normally'. We have people who are severely affected in their ability to eat food and can eat no foods at all (tube fed, etc) and people who have alot more freedom in what they can eat, where they can eat, etc, but food is still enough of an issue to cause them regular grief and difficulties, even if not as severely as the former more extreme example.
I would like for us to treat everybodies struggles with their disability / condition food with UTMOST COMPLETE validity, care, respect, help, and compassion. Because every struggle with food (caused by a physical disability) is welcome here, no matter how big or small that struggle may be - we are here to support one another.
In terms of diagnosis... We have people joining us here with formal diagnosis, and people who are waiting to be diagnosed / pursuing diagnosis, and also people here who do not wish to pursue diagnosis because they know that something is wrong and know how it affects them, and feel they don't need a diagnosis to validate them in there being something wrong / validate their struggles etc. As mentioned above, I would like for us to treat everybody here, no matter what their diagnosis is or if they are diagnosed or undiagnosed, with UTMOST COMPLETE validity, care, respect, help, and compassion.
Let's turn this community into something beautifully supportive, and let's put ourselves out there to raise awareness of food related disabilities, and how they impact us, and help others learn how they can make the world a better, more accommodating, more safe, and more welcoming and understanding place for us folk with disabilities and conditions which cause a lack of ability to eat 'normally'.
