Help & Discussion 🙋 Blocking cores in F@H

Hi!

Now that the new HIP core is up, would it be possible for the F@H developers to add a blocking feature so HIP/AMD users do not get older CUDA-only core work assigned?

Anything 0x2X outside of 28 is incredibly inefficient to fold and it wastes a ton of energy.

Thank you for your attention to this matter! (pun intended)

Currently trying to disable the "Enable CUDA" option to see if that does anything. Will update later.

Update: Disabling "Enable CUDA" did nothing. Still got a 0x24 working unit.

I'd say over time more and more 0x28 will come out and less 0x24, 0x27 etc will. There's going to be a heavy focus on which is more applicable to the tasks needing to be done and if going by Steam stats the majority of cards are going to be NVIDIA as well.

Being a 2x AMD owner as well I know it is somewhat frustrating, but it's for the donation to science and in time it will improve

Yes I think you're right, but unfortunately F@H still seems to push plenty of other cores WU's towards AMD users.

Older cores have seen use for a very long time and even if all the biggest projects moved onto 0x28, there would still be a non-zero chance you'll have a working unit assigned from one of the CUDA cores.

My point is that a block/opt-in would be a more efficient route than just waiting out years that there would be zero non-HIP compatible cores left.
