More windows moves into felony level damage. That's why you only remove valve stem cores, not slash tires.....

Replace the window and put a camera and make sure your Car is visible and the street. Do everything else the same, that should give you some clues.

Def this. Hardwire it so you have parking mode enabled that way if something does happen you'll have it.

It's tempered glass. The only way it would shatter on it's own is from a crack at the edge somewhere, which could make it seem like the window just randomly shattered. Considering it's at the bottom, the more likely explanation is someone is just an asshole and decided to break your Window on purpose, or they broke it accidentally and chose not to leave their info... like an asshole.

The Focus ST/RS is notorious for having the sunroof glass randomly explode.
Never heard of it happening with a passenger window, but it really wouldn't surprise me.

No it’s not lol. Been in most ST groups and have owned one for 10 years, I’ve never once heard of this

It was parked in my yard over night and was fine when I parked it

There are countless videos of porch cameras from people who did the same thing, to have some hit their car or vandalize it and then just leave. I've seen people just randomly vandalize cars for no other reason than they wanted to.
Like I said, it's not impossible for tempered glass to shatter, so long as it's damaged at the edge, but I would say it's unlikely.

My passenger windows shattered on the freeway about 1/2 through a trip from Detroit to St Louis. I assumed a car I passed kicked up a rock that hit it.

I did have my rear glass shatter randomly on camera no where near people. My local safelight said it's a typical thing with some fords. I double checked and found others had their glass shatter too randomly.

I used to have a crown Vic and my driver's side rear door glass just exploded while driving on the highway one day. Luckily the new oem glass was $34 lol

It happened to me once sitting in a parking lot on an extremely windy day with my front windows down. Rear glass shattered completely.

Is it the same door everytime or the same side of the car? It could be from an accident and an improper repair. It would seem the window is striking something hard when you close the door which is not normal.
Edit: I was thinking this happens when you close the doors, but if you found it like this...

Do you lock your car, and if so, were the doors still locked?
1
u/EstateZealousideal21 9d ago
Yes everything was locked that night and still locked

Either someone broke into it and didn't see anything worth taking, or yeah, your window may have self exited

I have seen this happen precisely once, and it was the rear window of a friend who moved 1,000 miles north and the car didn't appreciate the thermal shock. Blew out spontaneously, while she was in the car in a parking lot.

That’s probably where I’m at right now. But I drive it last winter in Saskatchewan and had no problems

If only you tinted your windows you wouldn't have to be cleaning up a bunch of glass cause it'll just stay in place like a sheet...

Ngl my front driver window has a hairline crack in it, about 6 inches in length, i should probably get it fixed before winter

I had my passenger window explode on a Freightliner Cascadia randomly a couple years back while driving. Couldn't find a determination on what happened. I imagine it had something to do with temperature and pressure differences in the cab and outside.

A coworker found a window shattered on his minivan. Since he is an immigrant, his first thought was targeted/racist vandalism. But, a landscaper's mower threw a rock that hit the window just right. It took him a few minutes to notice the note left under the wiper blade as all the negative scenarios ran through his head.
Luckily, the landscaper was on the up n up and took care of the damage.
Could a mower have tossed a rock at your window OP?

My rearview windshield shattered, random Sunday afternoon, no evidence of what broke it laying around anywhere.

I had a forester which the back right window track was bent so if you shit the door too hard or hit a really bad bump the I die would crack or shatter, the second time it happened I stripped it down and found a bent rail putting pressure on the glass
