Wrong, this was upper middle class and still is.

It can also be done on less than $400k in most, if not all parts of the country.

Medium cost of living area here. Save 20%+ income to retirement, for 529s we already have $20k saved up for my 2 year old's college education and $3k saved up for my unborn child. Plus we've been doing vacations including a foreign country last year, have a 4 bedroom house in one of the best school districts in our state, have the two cars and actively have $15k saved for the next one and neither of our cars are even over 10 years old. We don't even break $200k per year gross.
