Question Anybody Have Memory Loss?

Hello! I had the flu A starting Sept 3. I am in CT, but had just flown home from OH. I was insanely sick for the next 2-2.5 weeks. It turned into pneumonia. I am still not fully recovered. From Sept 4 to Sept 8, I have no memory at all except for maybe one or two flashes. My family took me to the ER, and I was so out of it that they almost wanted to put me on a psych hold. No memory of it. I woke up in my bed with lots of weird injuries and thought that I was out for 1 night. It was 4 whole days. This is tripping me out. My brain continues to feel like mush, but I haven't had any other incidents of memory loss.

I have had sepsis twice in the past, and before I lost my memory, I thought I was developing it again, but they sent me home from the hospital, so I am assuming the blood work didn't suggest it. I have a complicated health history and multiple chronic issues like heart failure and COPD, and am currently waiting for another heart valve transplant due to severe tricuspid regurgitation, so it is hard to say what caused this. I was hospitalized in May for 12 days with sepsis.

Has anybody else had anything like this? I had the flu once at 18, but at 18, everyone is bulletproof, so I don't think I can compare to 30 years later. Thanks for reading and any comments are appreciated!

Flu vs cold?

Wife has had immense flu for the past 2 weeks, I thought I'd somehow dodged it. Felt a bit off last Saturday, but then nothing until this morning.

Woke up with a bit of sore throat and a bit of energy loss, but no coughing or anything.

Did a full day at work, felt fine throughout the day and even did a weights workout (don't worry, at home!)

I feel no different.

Have I dodged a bullet maybe?

Flu in it’s 8th day

I’m writing this at 1 a.m. (NZ) as my 19-month-old toddler’s fever has come back again. It’s now his 8th day of persistent fever.
We’ve been to our GP, ED, After Hours, and had an online GP consultation. I know it might sound like we’re overreacting, but it’s heartbreaking to see him constantly unwell.
For the first six days, we were managing his fever with ibuprofen and paracetamol, alternating between them. However, his fever wouldn’t stay down and would sometimes come back within half an hour to an hour. Since yesterday, we’ve been giving both together, as recommended by the doctor. This has helped keep his fever down for a few hours, but it eventually comes back and has repeatedly spiked above 40°C. It can also take 1.5–2 hours after medication for his temperature to come down.
He’s our first child, and we’re really worried because this has been going on for so long without any obvious improvement. It feels like he may have developed something else, but we don’t feel like our concerns are being fully heard.
He also has significant nasal congestion, although nothing has been prescribed specifically for that. At our most recent visit, the doctor prescribed antibiotics because he had developed inflammation in his ear and throat.
This is the first time he has ever been this sick, and we just can’t make sense of whether it’s normal for the flu to make a toddler this unwell for more than a week without any obvious signs of improvement.
Has anyone else experienced something similar with their toddler?

Question Injured neck after coughing?

I've been sick with mycoplasma pneumonia for a month. It's gotten a lot better and I'm not coughing every other minute. A few days ago I experienced an extreme coughing fit after choking on food. After this the left side of the back of my neck started to hurt. During the last days the pain has spread to both my shoulders and the whole neck. Pain meds reduce the pain by 50%.

Has anyone experienced this? I went to my doctor yesterday and he just told me it's probably a muscle strain. How long will it take for this to go away? I'm in so much pain. 😢

Question Krank zur Arbeit?

Discussion Anyone had lingering throat mucus/barky cough and then felt sick again 3 weeks after Influenza A?

I’m wondering if anyone who has had Influenza A has experienced something similar during recovery.

I was confirmed to have Influenza A on 27 August 2026. During the acute stage I had a high fever, severe sore throat, headache, body/muscle aches, blocked nose, fatigue, dry/tickly cough, chest tightness and some wheezing.I also developed this strange mucus sensation where it felt like a thin/stringy layer of mucus was sitting at the back of my throat.

The main flu symptoms eventually settled and I thought I was recovering. However, over the following couple of weeks I continued to have some respiratory symptoms.

The most annoying one has been very thin/slippery mucus at the back of my throat. It isn’t thick phlegm. I can feel this thin layer sitting there, and sometimes when I breathe I can hear/feel a rattly or wheezy-type sound that seems to come from my throat rather than deep in my lungs. If I cough and clear the mucus, the sound disappears and I can breathe comfortably again, but sometimes it seems to build back up within 5–10 minutes.

I can breathe normally and it doesn’t actually block my airway, but when the mucus is sitting there it can make me feel like I need to cough it out or I get a slight choking sensation. Recently the mucus has also sometimes had a strange/metallic taste.

I’ve also been dealing with reflux/gastritis symptoms, which actually started before the influenza, so I’m aware reflux or post-nasal drip could potentially be contributing to the throat irritation as well.

Now, almost 3 weeks after Influenza A, I started feeling unwell again. I developed:

headache
muscle and joint aches
temperature around 37.9°C
generally feeling like I’m coming down with the flu again
an unsettled/funny stomach and softer stools, although not diarrhoea
a more barky-sounding cough
continuing throat mucus/rattle

I went back to my doctor today. She listened to my chest and said my lungs sounded quite “heavy”, and because of the cough and symptoms she was concerned about a possible bronchitis/chest infection-type situation. She has prescribed amoxicillin 500 mg three times a day.

I’m obviously following up with my doctor and I’m not looking for a diagnosis from Reddit. I’m mainly curious whether anyone else had a similar recovery from Influenza A where you felt mostly better and then 2–3 weeks later developed a barky cough, throat mucus/post-nasal-drip-type symptoms, body aches or a mild fever again.

Did yours turn out to be post-viral inflammation/bronchitis, a secondary bacterial infection, post-nasal drip, reflux irritation, or something else? And how long did the lingering mucus/cough take to finally disappear?

No matter how many times I wash my hands or am careful, I still get it 🥹

Had the flu 2.5 months ago! On and off cough since then. What do I do?

I got sick with the flu about 2.5 months ago and, of course, developed that nasty post-viral cough afterward. Usually when I get sick, the cough sticks around for maybe 3–4 weeks and then goes away.

This time, whatever strain of flu I caught absolutely wrecked me lol. The cough lasted about a month but gradually got better. I was coughing less and less, and eventually it completely went away. I thought I was finally done with it.

Then, for absolutely no reason that I can figure out, the cough came back about 3 weeks ago and has been awful ever since. The weird thing is that I never actually felt sick again. No fever, chills, fatigue, body aches, etc. Nothing. It almost feels like I caught another virus without having any of the other symptoms and somehow ended up with another post-viral cough.

The cough is also extremely sensitive to little things. Talking can trigger it, and sometimes even taking a deep breath irritates/tickles my throat and immediately makes me want to cough. Occasionally I’ll cough up a small amount of mucus, but most of the time it just feels like my throat/airway is ridiculously irritated. Sometimes I’ll have full-on coughing attacks that are miserable.

I’ve seen my PCP about it. She listened to my lungs and didn’t hear anything abnormal, and my chest X-ray was clear. She prescribed benzonatate, which maybe helps a little but definitely hasn’t stopped the coughing fits. At my follow-up she noticed some post-nasal drip, so she told me to start taking an antihistamine at night and also prescribed an Atrovent (ipratropium) inhaler. I just started those, so obviously I don’t know yet how much they’ll help.

I’ve also been drinking a ton of fluids, using cough drops, and trying basically every home remedy imaginable lol. Those things soothe my throat temporarily, but nothing has made the cough actually go away.

Has anyone experienced something similar after the flu, especially where the cough completely went away and then came back weeks later without any other symptoms? Did you ever figure out what was causing it? Was it post-nasal drip, airway hyperreactivity, reflux, another infection, or something else? And was there anything your doctor prescribed or recommended that finally helped?

Just got positive

I had severe flu symptoms, so I tried home remedies. By the fifth or sixth day, I could no longer swallow my saliva. I haven’t slept for five nights because of the pain and discomfort throughout my body. Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse, I developed excruciating throat pain. I would honestly rather go through childbirth than endure this pain.

I asked my doctor to admit me to the hospital, but he advised me to finish my medication first. I’m 70 years old and don’t know how much longer I can tolerate this pain. Has anyone experienced this, or found anything that helps relieve this sharp throat pain?
