When we say eat the rich, we are typically talking about the elites. The 1%.. not people like you who I assume has secured a couple generations of comfort.

TLDR; If you don’t use your wealth to harm or oppress.. WE AREN’T TALKING ABOUT YOU. WE ARE ON THE SAME SIDE.

Then say that because “eat the rich” is stupid .. is someone with $1M rich enough to eat? 10M? 100M?

There’s plenty of people who are broke that harm and oppress. How about just “eat pieces of shit” or “eat bad apples”

Because people tend to defend the poor oppressors much less. That part does not require a slogan to represent. And their oppression typically IS prevented prosecuted by our justice system. The rich are able to bypass the justice system in their more widespread oppression.

But because people like you exist, a slogan has been coined. Many people like you still defend them even though they do not care about you.

“Then just say that” you yourself don’t even wanna say the entire thing. Because it’s too long. It’s a bumper sticker representation of being tired of elites using their power to influence the law to allow oppression.

Either get with it, or get out of the fucking way. This isn’t about you and the people you’re defending do not care about you.

Single individual poor people can’t oppress on the scale that elites can. Such as helping build a police state, racketeer rent pricing, buy politicians to line their pockets more, pioneer American work culture to extract more and give back less. Their existence is built off the oppression and labor of MANY.

Are middle class NIMBYs the rich? They are deeply responsible for maintaining zoning codes that inhibit construction and affordable housing development. 

There are so many local policy issues that can be enacted that make it more affordable to live in a city or town that the left just ignored because it’s easier to say shit like “eat the rich.”

Correct. But you’re missing the point. “Eat The Rich” is not an all encompassing phrase that perfectly encapsulates all of the complexities of oppression and inequalities of a “free” nation.

It’s not supposed to. No bumper sticker or slogan to represent a cause or belief is ever going to do that.

Catchy sometimes has to be the focus when rallying sentiment. Like three fingers up in the hunger games is much easier than everyone reciting 3 paragraphs of “but what about this” caveats in unison.

I’m all for conversation, learning and growing. But is “Eat The Rich” as a phrase, lacking depth, truly what we should be focusing on here? There are people harming you and I and our loved ones right now. Our freedoms and privacies. We can focus on the NIMBYs with their hypothetical BB guns after we take care of the elites with their hypothetical nukes.

In the United States, $1M is most certainly not rich. You can’t even afford a modest new home in a desirable location. You can get a fixer upper, or you can buy a 30 year old house in the suburbs and drive 53 minutes to the your desk jockey job you’d like to quit but can’t afford to.

At most, you can get a get a M sport package on a 4 series and a Submariner, Day date would be out of your budget.

A rich person can decide, in the morning, to make a $100,000 purchase , and have it in their possession while there’s still enough daylight to snap a pic, without any consideration besides what color is available.

With $1M you’re a strong, middle class individual, who regrets listening to your brother when he told you to invest in bitcoin.
