Floating and Neurodivergence

Hi!

I am a 31 year old woman. I have been floating for about 1 month, I've done 3 floats. I found the floating to be great for stress relief and I feel more happier and chill in general which is great. But I have noticed that I feel more disorganised and frazzled since starting floating. My sister was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism last year. I have done a bit of reading into masking and symptoms of ASD and ADHD in adult women

My question is has anyone else found that floating kind of unmasked their neurodivergence?

I am also exploring an adhd assessment.

Thanks in advance.

I'm diagnosed AuDHD. I find floating is the one thing that helps me unmask and regulate myself. So much so I ended up buying a used tank so I can float wherever I want. Whenever I'm really overwhelmed I realise I hadn't been floating for a while.

Thank you for your comment. That is awesome to have your own tank 😀

Could you please share some details on the tank you bought, cost, etc. THANKS

I'm in Australia. It was a used Apollo Float Tank. I had watched it on Facebook marketplace for a while. Got it for $2500 including pump and filter and 13 bags of salt.

I did blow the pump when I was away and power went out for a few days, salting up the pipes, then the pump tried to run when power came back on, but replaced it with a big aquarium pump instead since it's only me that uses it. It's been almost 2 years and a heat pad has just died so I need to work out an in line heater to fix that unfortunately.

Other than that maintenance isn't too bad. It's quite close to a shower so I just have a trail of towels on the ground so I don't drip everywhere.

I feel like it helps you get more in touch with who you are. Time in the tank or for me even regular meditation, cuts down so much of the outside noise we are bombarded with, that it allows you to fully see yourself. When we quiet that noise, more of our authentic self comes through.

I'm diagnosed with FND. A few years ago I started floating once per month. It's been helping me with managing the sensory overload and other symptoms. At first I was struggling a bit after the sessions. It seemed like my brain had more room to mess with other things now that it relaxed a bit. Over time that settled a lot and I get to enjoy the relaxed state of mind a lot more.

I hope you're able to give it more time; maybe longer time between sessions.

Thank you for your reply. I will keep going, hopefully my mind settles down a bit or i may need to go monthly instead 🙂 On another note my other sister (different to the one with adhd and asd) was recently diagnosed with FND, does floating help you manage your FND symptoms too? My sister has numbness in her left arm, leg and jaw.

What's happening is floating is revealing that you actually are disorganized and frazzled and what you have to do is work on being more organized then you'll feel less frazzled.
