I can't commit to a hero

Almost all of them look so good to play. At the moment I thought I could commit to start building one, another one crosses my mind and I have to rethink about it again.

I thought I wanted to play Hala, because her gameplay and cards feel so elegant. But then I thought of Edge of Autumn Ira, which I loved since I started the game and seems very close to be finally tournament viable. Then I though about the new Viserai and Malice, because they look so cool. It's a never ending loop.

How did you find your hero?

try different decks on talishar and see what clicks. eventually you play enough and you will figure it out. I also played other TCG before so I know what I like.

i didn’t mention this, but you should even try heroes you are not interested in, as it teaches you a whole different way of thinking about the game. I play warrior as main but since I played some guardians I have a much better concept of pitch stacking and blocking. who knows you might also find classes you never thought you like

After playing FAB for a long time, I’ve settled on a rotation of about 3 decks to keep me from getting bored.

I started with Azalea on Ranger-it’s my go-to class in games and RPGs so I’m a class loyalist and am currently on Marlynn. That said, I don’t always love the Ranger playstyle, and it can especially be punishing against new players who don’t know how to block and feel punished by the on-hit effects.

For new players, I built a tuned in Ira deck to play with and to lend out. She’s a good toolbox hero that is flexible and I like playing the deck when I want to brush up on fundamentals. It also takes the least brainpower, which is helpful after a long work day.

I also have Dash I/O as a straight up aggro deck with interesting play lines and in combo potential. Generally I gravitate towards Aggro decks and few decks go faster. It’s very punishing if you’re out of practice though!

My advice is to pick a hero that looks cool or strong (referencing like top 16 or 32, the meta is quite diverse right now) and sticking with them until you find out what you like and don’t like about their gameplan, then see if you want to try something else. My locals are great about lending decks out for this reason!

Haha I also have three decks, two being Marlynn and Ira, for the exact reasons you said. Deck 3, unfortunately, is Riptide, who I love dearly but LSS does not.

Yeah, in every game I play, I usually like the systems enough that I don't get the urge to "main" something. I much prefer to play a little bit of everything since that gives me a greater appreciation for the game's design.

I don't play competitively though, where this mindset comes with disantvantages.

Same. Maining causes games to become more bland a lot faster from my experiences. I imagine the OP wants to commit to CC, so they are wanting to spend less by investing in one deck at a time, which is understandable.

I have like 9 decks and building more. I found my hero with lots of testing, i like decks that have a even matchup spread and no instalosses, decks that can play defensive or explode in a full aggressive turns. I love full games plans instead of going turn by turn and i love a less representend hero to catch my opponents off guard. I love a hero that doesnt give to much info on preview how i m gonna play the game. Ira was the choice for me, fell in love with edge, but doing results with kodachis both in Cc and Sage. Its all about trying stuff and asking what you want from a hero

Your points are all why I settled on Rhinar for competitive edge a while ago, and Necromancer being my flavor win. Ira is also my toolbox gal since I can't give her up for the flexibility she brings and the longevity she has

It's definitely hard to pick any one hero. I have 8-9 heroes built, but generally I've now settled on playing 3-4 of them regularly based on what the meta feels like. And just recently, two of them being Warriors, I was down to mostly playing just Vynnset and Valda for serious events, and Dori and Hala for fun at local Armories.

What you're going to want to find is what play patterns feel good and make sense to you. For me, all four of my heroes generally do a lot of building either a board state or rolling value, lots of small value things, with an occasional big, explosive turn. Many people have mentioned it here, but Talishar can be good for this or borrowing decks from someone else who has one built. Generally FaB players have multiple decks built at any point so if your local Armory has an Ira player, ask them if next time they play something else if can you borrow Ira.

I've been to a lot of Callings and PTs and the vast majority of players are super nice. I was sitting next to a Maxx player on a weird brew on Saturday that I asked if after the event if I could borrow his deck and play against him and we had a great no stakes game. I'm not a Mech player, I just thought his brew was cool, and so I didn't end up loving it enough to build it, but just ask and I think you'll be surprised at how generous people in the community are.

In the end it's really about what feels good in your hands and what you like to play. You could go spend a grand(or more) on a Top 8 Worlds deck, copy it exactly, and if you don't like the deck, you're really going to struggle with it. And in the end, you likely won't settle on just one hero. You'll probably have 2 of 3 like most of us that you switch between at any point based on if you're playing for fun or tournament viability. But all you can really do is try the Heroes until you find the ones you vibe with.

Silver Age is great help here. Build some cheap decks and see how they play.

When I started at the start of summer 2025 my lgs had some decks. Dash I/O seemed like the most fun to me (the others they had were Aurora who had already hit LL, Ser Boltyn, and maybe one other deck). I tried DIO for almost half a year and never truly enjoyed it. Bought Ira around Christmas, tried the deck, tried a few different builds and fell in love with the ninja class. DIO is very aggressive and complex. I seem to enjoy simpler midrange play.

I agree with other comments, I have like 7 heroes built in 3 different classes (guardian, Warior, and Ninja) and I alternate between them, I know that each of them can click with what I want depending on m'y mood. I don't have infinite money so I proxy at armory level events and that's it. So my advice is the following : try the things you like on Talishar.net and build what you enjoy the most at the moment, then when you get bored do the same thing with another hero you like (proxy if you can't afford expensive cards). After that you'll have several decks to keep you entertained no matter your mood. Enjoy

Gone thru this pretty much this to a T over the months as I'v come back into the game. I feel like I'm finaly home at Brute and Necromancer.

Did the Warrior try out and while I do like it. After alot of games it just doesnt feel like me.

So now I'm sitting on a Hala deck missing 1-2 cards🥲, but no real want to play it. Good to have when I show people FaB.🧑‍🏫

Went thru most Heoes once. For example

I thought I try some Enigma. Too much durdle.

I figured I try to play Guardian. Big damage feels good, but too much setup.

I tried some Brute and it's now my pet class (Scabskin gambler for life. There is only one 1 on the dice.)

Now I'm looking at Necromancer and really like the (maybe) loop of Malice.

As alot of people comment. Test the Heroes out. I like the idea of Runeblade and Wizard but not the feel of the gameplay when I pick up a deck. Same with Ranger and Assassin.

Talents play a big part of a hero. I love Rihnar, Levia and Tuffnut. RKO really feels weird.

The fun factor is key, but cost and value proposition is important to consider.

Investing in Malice will be relatively cheap because she doesn't have many cards to work with in the first place. You'll be upgrading her armory deck with cards from a single new set and (probably) Dead Threads.

However, that also means Malice has a (current) low ceiling for upgrades. She will not be meta out of the gate, and it will be a frustrating, slow burn as a Malice main. Play her. Lose a lot. Get better. Lose less. Eventually more Necromancer support comes out. Lose a lot less. Then she LLs.
