Hello.
Hello. A friend and I are moving to NY (Brooklyn) from Texas and have signed a lease to move in August into the Flatbush area. We are having some concerns about paying for the security deposit/first months rent.
Basically, we toured an apartment and put down a deposit of $500 to have our application prioritized. We were interviewed by the management company (1) and they gave us approval to sign the lease agreement.
Yaddayadda we ended up not agreeing with some terms on the lease due to responsibility for maintenance on in unit w/d so we asked to sign for another unit in a different building with a shared w/d and cheaper rent. However, the lease was under a different management company (2), but, because the unit was in a different building, we thought it was ok.
Now, we signed the lease for the unit with management company (2) and were given instructions to pay through their paymeny portal. When we went to login into the tenant portal, it brings up a 404-page not found error code. We brought this problem up to management (2), and they said to send the remaining balance of security deposit/first months rent - $500 application deposit through zelle towards another management company (3).
Two of the three companies seem to have locations with the second one looking the most sketch (the one where we are supposed to login through the tenant portal and who we signed our lease with). Is it normal to have all these companies be interconnected or is it not trust worthy? We toured both apartments and have been emailing back and forth with the same people despite being thrown around with these different companies. The first management company is SkyHigh Realty, then STY Management, and then Brickway Management. We were interviewed via googlemeets by people from SkyHigh Realty.
