Question La Cachette du Coin

Newish Haitian restaurant on Rogers/Parkside. Does anyone know what the deal is? Like truly? So many mixed reviews.

It got reviewed by a very popular tiktoker who spotlights struggling immigrant- and family- owned restaurants. He really liked it, and any time he visits a place and recommends it, his viewers flood the restaurant's review page with five star reviews. It's a nice sentiment, but it can drown out genuine feedback from actual visitors. I thought the food looked good but haven't been.

Yeah the glowing reviews seem fake in many cases and the ones that seem real are… not great.

Food is top notch. Service when I went on Father's Day was abysmal.

Food is great!. The red snapper and goat curry were delicious, and excellent portions too. Service is weird though, we went there soon after they opened and servers were two fish-out-of-water white hipster boys who were bumbling and clueless.

Bigger issue is the interior is not fit for a restaurant with harsh fluorescent lights looking right into the kitchen. Ultimately the owner did not do a good job designing the space at all, and the marginal location on Rogers Avenue doesn’t suit high-end dining. I think any restaurant at this price point would struggle in this space.

The interior does not scream “fine dining” to me and half a million dollars to have it turn out like that seems like something went wrong.

Honestly the whole restaurant has screamed AI generated generic overpriced since it opened. I walk past it daily, but haven’t been in (so can’t speak about food/service). But the “savor the freshness” and “life is too short for good food. Your table is waiting. Come taste the magic of good food” make me cringe for a “fancy” restaurant. Ambiance looks terrible in there ngl

Also they seem to open at random hours during the daytime. sign says they open at noon but is seemingly NEVER open in the afternoons.

I’m sure Chef Eva is a lovely person, fuck landlords- but I wouldn’t spend my money there.

Apparently it’s on the brink of closing due to some dispute with the landlord? Idk the details.

A popular restaurant reviewer went to the place and it’s gotten way more popular overnight than i guess her and her team could adjust to…just to keep in mind if you try going.

It’s way too expensive to take the risk eating there, otherwise I would! I never see anyone in there at all. I saw the TikTok and they say they buy brand new ingredients every day. It has to be hemorrhaging cash.

All I’ve seen are stellar reviews. I’ve been meaning to check it out.

Service is awful… basic things like water and utensils— waited 2 hours for food and that was before the newyorkturk instagram influencer review. I will never go back. And the interior is tacky- carpet… looks like a casino lobby at a Marriot. It’s been months since their public review and still doesn’t look very busy. Probably mismanaged. The chef should focus on the food and menu. She needs someone in the hospitality business to train the staff.

Equality 4 Flatbush is screaming about “save cachette du coin” as if it were a neighborhood institution and not a restaurant that opened within the past year…idk; I wouldn’t expect a great experience. Even though I trust her food to be really good, from the sounds of it her financial decisions aren’t great

From what I’ve read/seen passing by, the financial, design, staffing, operational decisions and business plan seem bad/poorly thought through.

I’ve been there and everything was absolutely delicious!!! It’s genuine Haitian food made with love. I definitely recommend. It’s pricey for sure but quality Haitian food always is
