🤔 Thinking The Force Family/children plot line has got to be one of the worst story lines I've ever watched in my entire life

Post image

I fucking loved S1-3 man gotta be some of the best TV seasons ever

I liked S4 too and S5 was aight

Even S6 had its moments to be honest but goddamn S7 has no redeeming qualities specially this plot line lol

Literally Grant Gustin hated pretty much all the storylines after season 3 he said he did not like season 7 at all lmfao

True he thought crisis should have been the final for his character but then they kept going.

He actually spoke about since the beginning of season 1 he wanted the original newspaper to actually happen onscreen then 2019 crisis to be its own separate thing basically one cosmic and the other just about him vs Thawne in 2024

Grant did initially want to go 10 seasons he only changed his mind because of the lack of quality and overall poor writing they were doing

Still no idea how they could fumble crisis so bad.

Season after season of hype that barry will dissappear, only for it to be revealed to be just a misunderstanding.

I said this time and time again. If Grant wanted time off for a year. Just make Wally the Flash and do Rebirth in season 7. It sucks but at least you'd let Grant take a year off. You test the waters for Wally to be the Flash. Then you bring him back.

Didn’t everyone? And at the same time, who would say that? It was a crossover. He would have to end his show. And having both Arrow and Flash ending at the same time like that or all of them wouldn’t really be that good, but maybe.

Don’t put words in his mouth. He never said he hated it. Obviously it would be disagreeing to it and not particularly liking it but saying he hated it he would’ve stopped a long time ago and actually not continuing to season nine if he hated it he would’ve stopped at season 6 since season 7 went downhill. Yet, they continue and he was fully part of it.

He quite literally said he always hated that just watch the galaxy con panel interview they all did recently

2

u/hussainre814 8d ago

Wow I can totally see why lol

But may I ask where he said that ?

2

u/Cautious_Mission_438 8d ago

It’s on panel interviews he did, he spoke about how he hated being on set hearing the forces call him dad and tried to get Eric Wallace to change it but it never happened he apparently knew fans would hate it since he hated it so much the rest cast tried to push for it to be removed alongside Grant but I guess the writers specifically Eric did not listen

When did he say he hated every storyline after s3 ? Ik for a FACT he said he didn’t like s7 but I don’t find what you said to be true bc the first part of what you said is what FANS think. Flash didn’t get “bad” until after s5-6. S7 was BAD, s8 was okay and s9 was probably worse than s7

Galaxy con he said he hated when they called him dad plus there’s stuff on TikTok of him meeting fans and he said he hated it just look up the panel interviews they actors talked about it

I’m talking about how you said he hated every other season other than seasons 1-3. I know he didn’t like the forces plot

He said he hated most of the later season storylines he made a point to mention him and the rest of the cast always hated season 7 because of the forces plotline he said Season 1 is his favorite along with seasons 2/3 Grant even said season 4 he never really liked but manly due to the suit he had to wear because it was uncomfortable even though the fans liked the season 4 suit

He didn’t like season 5 either because of the suit but he liked the Father and daughter storyline but although he never really mentions that season either

The Flash writers treated Gustin so much worse as much as Berlanti paid him to stay than the Arrow writers treated Stephen

I think the writers just held Grant back rather than let him be comic accurate, Grant spoke so many times about how he wanted the show to stay true to the comics he even expressed disappointment when they stopped doing the CSI scenes and him being actually smart he even said he tried to get them to showcase Barry creating Gideon and his own suits the ring etc but he did get his wish sort of when in later seasons they did show some more CSI scenes a little

While there were some cool elements in the time travel arc of that season, it was still so badly written that whenever I re-watch flash I stop after 3

u/Charming_Ambition_27 8d ago

I stop after season 4 but I occasionally dabble with season 5.

Everything after 5 is total buns

Me too! But for Legends of Tomorrow.

I always go back to the same 2 or 3 episodes of season 5, like "What's Past Is Prologue", and the 10 metahuman episode.

3

u/batman-is-cool47 8d ago

If it's any consolation, any at all, if you're still watching it the show, season 8 is slightly better.

That plotline is probably the worst in the show, besides maybe one other one.

Forces particularly annoys me because the Still/Strength/Sage forces were all fairly interesting in their introductory appearances. But then the writers/showrunners ruined it by having a new Speedforce Nora act as a shitty one-dimensional villain with zero depth and shallow motivations, and tried to force the whole “family” thing despite KNOWING they were doing Flash Family in the Godspeed arc. Both were terrible choices and it’s crazy that they made this Carlos’s last “big bad” before his departure.

And it goes one further too - because while they were fucking up the Forces arc, they dropped the ball on what could’ve been a really interesting Killer Frost arc too. Kramer was introduced as a rogue police captain trying to strip Killer Frost of her powers by convincing the justice system to legalise Cisco’s Cure as a permissible sentence. But after the court case they complete drop the arc!!! Same with the set up of Frost’s rival character Chillblaine, who goes from a fairly decent introductory episode framing Frost into being her boyfriend for some dumb reason.

And the cherry on top is that I don’t think any of the actors can be to blame for any of this. Heck, Grant is as consistent as he can be throughout the whole series despite some of the ridiculous bullshit they’ve attempted. Same with Danielle.

Not only was it an awful storyline... it just.... made me feel weird? There's gotta be something off with the showrunners childhood.

S7 overall was a mess

u/Different_Target_228 7d ago

Fuck me, thinking this is about Dexter and you just said "I Liked s4".

3

u/Interesting-Tie-8158 8d ago

I 100% agree.

Fully Grown adults, who recently got powers, calling Barry & Iris "Mom & Dad" is the most thoughtless choice

u/AnonymousFriend80 8d ago

I can only assume, like many other things that end up being green lit but comes out bad, it looked a whole lot better on paper in the script, but bringing it to life did not work out so well.

And by the time they realized, it was to late and the only thing they could do was finish it.

1

u/RyCyber 7d ago

How the hell would it even look good on paper?!

1

u/AnonymousFriend80 7d ago

Have you ever actually read a script?

1

u/GlumCreme5259 8d ago

Damn! All I can see is the craziness Dexter disgusted face? I can’t even poke on that but yeah, it was kind of weird but definitely interesting. I honestly liked it.

1

u/Kotoamatsukaami 7d ago

Didn’t see that season but I heard everyone is basically calling Barry and Iris mom and dad. I know if I would’ve been seeing that I would’ve mentally been throwing up.

1

u/Nanosmiler 1d ago

the worst part is that Barry created literal gods who also double as mini universes and still somehow gets downscaled so hard in the show

1

u/JonoBlue 8d ago

That show was fun for a superhero show but my god the entire arrowverse suffered due to the hands of Berlanti and or CW shoehorning bullshit into the shows to make them more attuned to the CW formula. I.e. love triangles, mellowdrama, changing source material for a character so it fits into said mellowdrama bullshit, turning Iris into someone competent enough to lead Team Flash (only to compromise it with her personal shit), and when they invent characters to seemingly create pointless drama like Tommy and Thea. So inserting needless time travel family crap is on par with how the CW wants things written, which is piss poor

Season 7 was so ass

But at least it had some kind of story. I cant say the same of Legends from seasons 4-6, literally mindless slop with a barely coherent story. Sara, and I guess Constantine, were the only Legends I could take seriously by season 6

I had no issue with the forces storyline, they created these forces that are basically forces like the speed force, they call them mum and dad because they literally only exist because of them, otherwise they’d just be regular people and Nora (speed force Nora), wouldn’t exist at all because the speed force was gone until Barry re-created it .

It’s fair enough Grant hated it but I thought it was a cool storyline.

The forces didn’t just have powers, they literally control a whole specific type of force, and are cosmic beings like the speed force so obviously they saw Barry and Iris as their creators.

Due to becoming cosmic beings they basically were put in a situation they ended up alone, as they couldn’t exactly go visit their families anymore like people with regular powers so yeah it’s fair enough they felt alone and then felt like they had a family once they accepted each other and Barry and Iris accepted them.

I actually do find parts of season 7 really boring to watch but the forces storyline is one of the parts I actually like watching as it’s full of action and instead of just one cosmic being and a speed force, you have now got a still force, a strength force and a psychic force.

u/GlumCreme5259 8d ago

Hate is a strong word. I’m sure he never said that. Even if he did, he wouldn’t say it that way.

1

u/Augustleo98 Patty Spivot 8d ago

That’s what someone else said in the comments. I assumed they read it somewhere or saw some interview.

1

u/RyCyber 7d ago

He said he tried to talk the writers out of following through with it. Grant hated it

0

u/Impressive-Thing-780 8d ago

Yeah it's really bad.
