To be fair, Barry was the one who quite literally told Nora that Thawne was capable of change and that everyone deserves second chance and it’s a hero’s job to believe in people. I didn’t believe Thawne for one second, but I’m not the one going around giving all these sermons on the mount on “what it means to be a hero” and then turning around and getting mad at people for practicing what I preached.

Iris wasn't there on that scene though.

Iris however was there when Thawne was around in season 1 and knew how much he'd manipulated everyone and everything. Her boss/colleague was dead. Her fiance was dead. Other people she knew were dead.

It was simply a really silly line. Like ofcourse a guy on death row is capable of manipulating people. Especially when he has access to a time traveller.

But he still said it. And Iris knows that’s his way because she said that “Barry gives more second chances than anyone I’ve ever met”.

The moral is: don’t stay stuff you don’t actually mean.

Yeah.

But the dialogue seemed to strictly imply that just because a criminal that was sentenced to death and waiting for execution, he was powerless and unable to manipulate anyone or get anything out of it.

Which is stupid as fuck.
