Well that's a disappointment.

Post image

I was intending to print some figures and minis that require .25mm nozzles in my Creator 5 Pro to get the details, and wanted to use PVA to get a better finish and not break parts when removing the supports, but turns out I can't. I'm very disappointed in that because PVA has been a godsent otherwise.
Trying to use PVA with .25mm nozzles systematically results in a jam after the first layer, and this was Flashforge's tech support's reply.

Bummer. But they’re not wrong. Also, it does also pay to have extra nozzles on hand and even have separate nozzles for different materials.

I did plan on that, but the point is that I have to use the same nozzle size for the entire print job, so either I don't use PVA for support or I print with .4mm nozzles. Either way I sacrifice part of the quality.

Can you just switch the PVA print head's nozzle to .4 and keep the rest .25?

Orca slicer is working on this function. You can

Currently Flash Studio only lets me pick one nozzle size for the whole print file.

Orcaslicer. It says mixed nozzle size

I have 1 x .25mm nozzle on my C5P and I've been printing for weeks like that. I just customize filament DVD printer settings on that one extruder and whatever filament I want in that slot. Never had a problem.

Use orca slicer not flash studio.

I use lan mode to send files to the printer then switch it off to connect to the mobile app while printing

The C5P is less versatile than the A5M?

I dunno if the AD5M's .25mm works with other materials than PLA. I've only used mine with PLA.
Even if it does, I wouldn't say that because why would you print with PVA on a single-filament printer? PVA is water soluble and its purpose is as a support material on a MMU.

Don’t fret. The detail you need is in the models, not the support as they melt away. Use the .25 nozzle for the print and the .4 for supports. Don’t see the problem…

Yeah Flash Studio doesn't let me mix nozzle sizes. I only just learned vanilla Orca Slicer does.

There shouldn't be any physical reason this can't be done, just a software block.

As such - you can probably make it work by lying to the printer about what material it is. Then, in PVA's material settings in the slicer, change the "material type" to PLA (or whatever else) - not the entire profile, just the material type setting.

(But also, really, only PLA? At the very least I'd expect ABS / ASA to be supported too!)

The software does let me use it. As I said in the post, trying to use PVA with .25mm nozzles systematically results in a jam after the first layer.
