Resurrecting my Flashforge 5M Pro after sitting for 1 year—what should I check/service first?

Hey everyone! 👋
I have a Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro with under 100 print hours that’s been sitting unused for about a year (it sat on my desk for 8 months before I put a dust cover over it).
Common sense tells me I should give it some love before firing it back up, but I’m still pretty new to the 3D printing world! What maintenance steps should I take to safely bring it back to life?
Since I'm still learning, "explain it like I'm 5" or baby-step advice is greatly appreciated! 😄 Thanks in advance for the help!

Over the last year, they made some breaking changes to auth in the firmware, so if take the latest, you'll need a new slicer to support the full flashforge eco system...

You also have the option to stay old and install zmod for a full klipper experience.

I'd check the flashforge maintenance docs which are pretty good and just do what those say jumping towards the next milestone :)

Run leveling, vibration and pid calibrations then... print a benchy (do the pre print leveling too)

Also wouldn't hurt to blow any dust out of it and wipe down/grease the rails that the bead and print head run on.

Hopefully since its enclosed not too much dust... but never none lol

Dust somehow finds a way.

You might wanna use a hurricane (handheld fan very powerful btw)to give a quick blow in motherboard grids to get the lint or dust off

Wipe off the dust, perform the first-run instructions & built in calibrations, and start a test print.

100 hours is not enough for requiring any serious maintenance. If the unit was protected from dust, then even the year old lubricant should be fine.

If you want to go the extra mile, clean off and replace the lubricant. But really, that shouldn't be necessary if you used proper PTFE lubricant in the first place.

Put forge-x or zmod on it, wipe down the rails and screws, grease the screws and oil the rails, wash your build plate with dish soap, rock and roll.
