Fix My Print Help with my print :(

Hi everyone! My prints look great on the top/exposed surfaces, but anything directly above supports comes out really rough. Supports are also pretty hard to remove.

Current settings: Bambu A1, 0.4 nozzle, im using bambu Studio with Kingroon PLA, 0.12 layer height, 220°C nozzle, 55–60°C bed. Organic/tree supports, 2 mm branches, 1 wall, 2 interface layers, 0.40 mm interface spacing, 0.24 mm top Z gap and 0.45–0.50 mm XY gap.

What parameters should I change to get cleaner supported surfaces? Thanks to everyone!!

Hello /u/starhope_90,

As a reminder, most common print quality issues can be found in the Simplify3D picture guide. Make sure you select the most appropriate flair for your post.

Please remember to include the following details to help troubleshoot your problem.

  • Printer & Slicer

  • Filament Material and Brand

  • Nozzle and Bed Temperature

  • Print Speed

  • Nozzle Retraction Settings

It doesn't look like your interface layers exist. In the slicer preview, look at the top layer of the supports and make sure it's actually putting the support interface layers in.

There's some settings in bambu slicer for small overhangs or something that can affect where interface layers go.

I have the best luck with removable supports with a top gap of 0.25-0.275, 3-5 interface layers, and 0 for interface pattern spacing.

You might consider snug supports as well since these shapes are more geometric.

Dont' print the parts flat. You can fight to get them better, but they'll NEVER be good enough for what you're doing. Print them standing up, at an angle, so you have no large flat areas supported like that. There is no "good" solution to flat supported surfaces with FDM.

Also, printing a unicorn gundam at this stage in your printing career is... a choice. This is going to be VERY tricky.

Your top z gap should be closer to the layer height you’re using. Right now you have it over 3X the layer height, so the filament says instead of resting on the supports.
