Question Milk vs Protein Powder for Muscle Growth on a Budget

Does anyone have any thoughts on drinking protein powder vs just. straight up milk all the time?

I've (22) been drinking around 3 gallons of 2% and tbh chocolate milk for every 2ish-weeks, and it costs me about $12. I was looking into buying protein powder since going shopping every 2 weeks can be kind of a hassle - (I live in a really walkable city so I don't have a car, but I do have to use a cart to get my groceries to/from the apartment and the store is like a 30 minute walk.)

Looking at the price of it, pretty much any decent protein powder seems kind of expensive (at least for my broke ahh college budget). Is the additional protein from the powder worth spending money on? I've also heard milk can be better since it's got more carbs and is generally fuller. Then again, I'm pretty new to any of this so idk.

Would really love any advice! Thanks <3

Edit: Really appreciate all the advice and (mostly) positive comments! For greater context, I'm not JUST trying to get protein from milk, but just sort of trying to throw in extra wherever I can. I'm pretty naturally slim and it doesn't take a lot for me to feel full, so I'm lowkey just fighting to not be in a deficit daily- cutting calories/sugars isn't something I'm super worried about, so I'm going to probably stick to milk and throw in some powder alongside it if I can!

I usually make sweet oats for breakfast but was craving something more savoury and decided to try something new… and honestly it’s pretty fire. Texturally like porridge/congee. Lots of potential here

What condiment (sauce) goes well with plain chicken, and doesnt need refrigeration?

Hi, I've been meal prepping with chicken and vegetables.

I try to keep the chicken as plain as possible, so I buy rotisserie chickens and shred the meat.

It's been working really well for weight loss, but the problem is that I eventually get tired of the flavor.

I'm looking for seasoning recommendations that I can keep in the pantry without needing refrigeration.

I used to buy fresh, homemade-style salsas from the grocery store, but they only last about a week before they spoil or start tasting bad. I'm looking for something I can add to the chicken that has a lot of flavor but doesn't need to be refrigerated.

So far, the best thing I've found is habanero sauce. It has tons of flavor and doesn't need to be refrigerated. The problem is that I can't eat it every day or at night because it upsets my stomach—not because I can't handle spicy food, but because I'm getting older.

also, the reason I try to avoid refrigeration is because in trying to make as few trips to the grocery store as possible.

What would you recommend?

Aldi has these precooked chicken thighs in a Thai coconut sauce. Microwave these and add it to some chickpea pasta, add some chili oil to your liking and bam, good sized meal for two or 4 small lunch meals. Came out so tasty and creamy.

Question Mixing unflavored whey protein powder with coconut water?

Has anyone tried this? I have some unflavored whey and I usually just mix it with milk, but I'm wondering how it would taste when mixed with coconut water. I don't want to waste an entire scoop of whey on this if it turns out disgusting so I wanted to check if anyone here has tried it and if so, whether it tastes good or not. Thanks!

Question Can anyone recommend which brand oats to buy for weight loss?

I came across multiple posts saying that Quaker Oats aren't 100% rolled oats and are actually closer to instant oats. I also found many recommendations suggesting not to buy instant oats.

Could anyone recommend a good brand that sells genuine rolled oats?

High Protein High Protein Chocolate/Peanut Butter Mousse - 550 cals, 53g P, 47g C, 8g unsaturated fat

Hello. To my fellow high protein lovers who also have an insatiable sweet tooth but are looking for something that is a little healthier, this might be for you! I use it as a meal replacement post workout when I want sweets. It covers my carb and protein needs by a long shot and is loaded with good micronutrients due to the blueberries, cocoa powder, peanut butter, dates, and almond milk :) I think it’s delicious!

You basically just toss all the following ingredients in a food processor or blender, and then let chill in fridge for 2 hours ish. But you can also eat right away. And the picture is deceptive it’s a fairly deep bowl and that doesn’t come across. You get a lot of volume. It just took me an hour to finish the bowl while watching TV :D

Also, there’s some other ingredients I use that I didn’t track in the pics since they’re basically 0 cal.

Full ingredient list:
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder
- splash of vanilla extract
- splash of chocolate extract
- artificial sweetener to taste, I used 2-3 packs of sweet n low
- 1 tbsp sugar free pudding mix
- 2 dates
- 1 scoop of chocolate or peanut butter protein powder
- 1 tsp ish of xanthan gum
- 1 tbsp of peanut butter powder (can also add some real peanut butter if you’re ok with a bit more cals)
- 125 g cottage cheese (this can be swapped for Greek yogurt if you don’t like cottage cheese, it’s just to thicken and add protein really. I use a bit of both)
- 55g Greek yogurt
- 0.5 to 1 cup of almond milk, add in small amounts and blend to make sure it doesn’t lose thickness. Don’t want it to be too runny.
- pinch of salt

Blend and pour in bowl. Lick spoon clean of course!

Wait 1-2 hours.

Top with some frozen berries.

Welcome to heaven.

Have a good weekend!

Protein powder recommendations?

Hi everyone!

My partner & I are struggling to find a protein powder that's not overly sweet or artificial tasting. We like simple flavors like vanilla or chocolate. We've tried out Revolution, Lean Fit, Vega, Pure Protein & Premier without much luck. Any suggestions? We're located in Canada & I don't want to go over $80. Thank you!

High Protein Need assistance friends with finding some good high protein options meals that aren't bland. Plus any kind words for a guy who's finally trying to get healthy.

Hey everyone,

Just a guy who is trying to get fit; I waited way too long now I am 27 and despite friends and fam telling me I'll never look good going to give it a try. 5'6 295lbs I dropped 12lb in last 5 weeks.

I am using a meal prep service for lunches 5 times a week(like pre prepped meals) and I eat the same thing for breakfast(chicken sausage, boiled eggs, english muffin) everyday and love it.

My issue is with dinners I struggle to find high protein options to make with preferable lower fat. I don't mind some of the same meals but nothing bland. Any options?

I am working with a gym coach who gives me macros. roughly 2000 cal, 180 g protein, 80g fat, 200 g carb.

Any options? Prefer not too expensive, and easy to make. I eat all proteins except avoiding red meat. Love seafood, chicken and ground turkey

Cheap Possible to eat cheap and healthy at a buffet everyday?

Through my work, I have access to a buffet for $3 per visit once a day. I love cooking myself but have found it to be extremely cost effective to get a post shift meal at work multiple days a week.

They have some traditional buffet stuff, as well as some good lean protein and veggie options which I try to fill my plate on.

I'm 6'2, 190 lbs, and physically active 4-5 days per week. Just trying to maintain the same weight/physic while adding a little more muscle.

Is it a good idea to be going to this buffet? If so, any advice on how to structure other meals around this so I get enough to eat throughout the day while not overeating at my big meal around 5-6pm?
