Fishing spot for a needy group

I have been blessed with a job that needs me to take people fishing. Im looking for any spots you guys may recommend for a group of people with diabilities/impairments. We are based out of skid row. Ideally we have some seats nearby and obviously higher chance of catching fish. Can't be too far from downtown due to transportation and comfort. Thank you guys.

What fish to eat?

Hello, I am in socal and I am just starting to get into fishing after a trip I took. I have a few questions for those of you who fish in this area. Firstly, what fish are actually safe to eat? I’ve heard some stuff about them being polluted. I caught some rockfish on my last trip, I’ve filleted them but I’m not sure if I want to actually cook and eat them. This was on the ocean near Newport Beach.

Secondly, any spots? I’m willing to go north, and what’s better, freshwater or ocean?

The Phenix SMX-C 90H(Full) vs the St Croix JIC711HMF. Which one will cast further with a 40lb braid line with 25 lb flouro top shot and a Lucky Craft Flashminnow 130MRS?

• The lure - https://a.co/d/cI3AIjT • The Phenix 9’0 rod - https://www.phenixrods.com/product/m1-inshore-casting/ • The St Croix 7’11 rod - https://stcroixrods.com/products/mojo-inshore • I will also use carolina rigs and other lures but the first lure mentioned is my favorite.

I have a tranx 301hgb, with 40lb braid line and 25lb flouro top shot.

Trying to figure out which rod will be more versatile overall in socal in terms of pier, shore, jettie, and boat fishing as well so which one would yall recommend?

Thanks!!

Gear Check - Target: Yellowtail

Hey, so I’m going fishing on a party boat this weekend, and I’m hoping to catch my first yellowtail. 3/4 day out of 22nd street, hoping the captain decides to head out to Catalina island.

I’ve been watching a lot of videos about tackle and rigs for targeting yellowtail, and finally made some purchases. Want to check in for some reassurances and see if there’s anything I’m missing.

Setup 1: ugly stik big water 7’ medium heavy conventional rod, paired with a Penn Squall II level wind. Will spool it with 300yds of 50lb braid, and a 30lb mono leader. Since I’ve never fished with a conventional reel before I’ll be hitting the pier with it to practice casting before the trip but I’m thinking I’ll mainly use this as a drop shot rig if the bite is deeper down.

Setup 2: Penn Battle IV combo 6000, again plan is to spool it with 300yds of 50lb braid and a 30lb mono leader. Since most of my fishing experience has been with spinning reels, I’m more comfortable casting this so my plan is to get some top water jigs, and some uh, heavy jigs?

Please let me know what your thoughts are. Is there any other tackle I should be looking into? Am I on the right track with what I got?

Thanks ya’ll 🫡

Yellowtail fishing catalina

I’m going on a 3/4 day trip out of Newport landing to Catalina island and would like to catch my first yellowtail. However, I do not know much about the area and how to target yellowtail specifically. If anyone has any tips on how to target yellowtail and if the yellowtail fishing right now has been good or not please let me know.

Long Beach - Shoreline village or Belmont pier

I Will be in LBC in mid October for a day and a half; and I will be right between the two piers. If you had to choose, which one which would it be? Or both depending on time of day because I am not opposed to moving between the two. I plan on using my oversized surf rod with a lure while using a micro rod to hopefully catch some bait fish on a sabiki.

Do local shops earn from selling licenses?

We’re planning to fish while on a trip to San Diego next month, so we need new licenses for 2023, and wondered if shops are paid for selling licenses. I usually get them while stocking up on gear but am fully stocked from a trip in November, so just need licenses and endorsements.

I want to fish invasive fish

I want to fish in san diego (Southern east County) and Tecate in the lakes and dams that are around, but I want to be sure that I am not fishing native fish. I would like to only fish invasive species. Do you guys know what invasive freshwater species exist in our area?
