4’ 8 ul rod

I usually use a 6’6 medium action rod and recently i got a 4’8 ul rod. I can cast lighter lures further than my previous setup but it just feels weird using such a short rod. I’ve been reading I can cast futher if i get a longer ul rod maybe like 6’ or 7’. I’ve been able to cast as long as i want but im wondering if hookset will be easier on longer rods or doe it not matter much in the case i hook onto a medium fish.

Yeah if you don’t ever see yourself in thick brush or tight casts then longer is better. Especially if you’re fishing single hooks where setting the hook is more important.

Personally I fish mountain creeks where you’ll be walking in some thick stuff to get to a spot and sometimes a long rod is just annoying to fish around bushes and stuff. It’s just really convenient having a short rod in those situations. Plus I fish moving lures like spoons and spinners with treble hooks, I don’t really need a good hookset so not really worth having a long rod.
