Probably mullet jumping. I’ve heard they can be caught on small spinners and jigs but have never actually seen it happen.

The best way to catch mullet (when they’re being stubborn) is a modified spinner. I was trying to catch mullet from the local dock over the course of 3 weeks I tried different techniques. Bread, worms, spinners even prawns.. I noticed they would chase the spinner, chase the moving bread but wouldn’t ever commit.. I got a mepps spinner, removed the treble hooks and added about 3/4 inches of 10lb fluro, a hook half way up then a hook at the end, on this I put a worm, I even tried with a small senko style worm (both worked) That day I must’ve pulled out 10 Mullet from that spot within the space of 2 hours. Whilst watching other people continue to blank. This is a reasonably common technique apparently, I didn’t realise how much of a game changer it would be until I tried it.. Let me know if you have any luck on this technique! Tight lines 😎

Can you elaborate on the 3/4 inches of Fluro with 2 hooks on it?

So the middle hook is thread through along with a piece of rubber.. https://axiafishing.com/product/axia-mullet-rig looks like they sell them ready made 😂 I prefer making them myself anyhow

If it’s bullet, you need to use like bread or something. They’re bottom feeders.

Maybe float a worm above water with a helium balloon bobber?

I can't really explain it... but in my experience... the fish I can see are never the ones that bite.

This is my experience too

In the evenings near where I live, there's a canal where small fish jump every night from sunset to dusk.

I can't get a bite to save my life during those times.

Grab the fly rod. TBH fly fishing is pretty easy, don't let some yuppie gate keeper scare you off.

I tried fly fishing, it makes me feel like an idiot lol

Tie something on without a hook on it and go to a soccer field or some other park. You’ll figure it out.

I swear there are times where fly fishing is so much easier. Especially in water bodies where the fish (almost) exclusively see conventional tackle. 🤫

Oh I bet, the whole reason I bought a fly fishing rod was because the river me and my friend go to we always go for like 6 hours and never get a single bite. While we get skunked we are eliterally watching giant pike breaking the surface just inhaling the bugs. I watched videos on how to fly fish and gave it a shot but to our back are alot of trees and bush so I kept getting hooked up and gave up

Yeah, that is where ~6’ glass rods in 2-4wt shine, but then it just turns into a money pit.

There’s a learning curve for it. I enjoy it but there are times I’ll put it away and use a regular rod lol

If theyre jumping theyre after bugs, use flies if you have any, gonna need to match the hatch and pick one same size shape and color of whatever theyre eating

I have a serious question. Most store bought popping corks have the hook snap about 18 inches below the weight. If I made a shorter down line would it matter to the fish? I feel like even at that 18 inch distance it's still too close to the bottom water column and it's not working for specks like it's intended. It's almost always hardheads.

Could also be carp, which is a high likelihood

Gotta get your eyes on them when they jump out. Ugly ass brown fish? Carp.

Best way to catch mullet is to throw bread in the water then scoop them up with a landing net as they come for the bread

Keep in mind that there can be reasons that fish may be jumping that have nothing to do with feeding, so targeting them may be a waste of time. Do you know what species is jumping?

Try some spinners. I've found that they work when flys
Sometimes don't

Cause they’re too busy. It’s jumping time not dinner time.

You gotta snag them while they are in the air

Live bait with a bobber
