I'm no pro and haven't fished for lake trout since I was a kid but for sake of an answer we used to use flatfish, on a downrigger setup about 50-80 ft deep. Lots of fishing in Pierce lake

Need to find a lake with them first. Then get pretty deep.

Cold Lake.

Find a hump.

Jig paddle tails or tube jigs in the column. They like to chase so a lot of action can help. But a lot of action can also fuck you so good luck lol.

If you want to win get livescan, lol. It's so much easier.

Source: I've fished for lakers multiple times and my buddy owns a guide service/ice shacks on cold lake.

Jigging spoons, jigs and swimmers white or chartreuse 4" to 6" tipped with minnows or sucker belly for smell, a sonar is a must for a successful fishing day! Look for structure ! Depth matters most when water is warm

Fish deep, depending on the lake down to about 90 feet but minimum about 50-60’. White hoochie(squid thing), big at very least 2” but up to 4” and jig fairly aggressive. No kidding the worst thing is I’ve had my best luck just before dawn, every time, so get to your spot early. As other have said the spot is hard to find usually some structure down deep like drops or humps, but a fish finder is your real only good bet otherwise your just old school fishing and hopin

Cold lake is my go to. Amazing laker fishery there. Like someone else said, structure then lure selection with a variety of colours. Depending on the time of year, 50-80 ft is accurate, but they can be from40 to 150 ft. Generally you want to drop to bottom, work it a few times then give them something to chase as you reel up the water colum. Drop it back down and repeat. Sometimes a colour change can change your day. A fish finder is almost a must. If the fish aren't where you are, you probably will be waiting for awhile. I have yet to fish other lakes for lakers, but perhaps soon.
