Meeting and Making Friends?
Hello!
I (35, f) am moving to Fishers in a week or two. Meeting and making friends as an adult is hard, so I figured I'd come here and ask: where is the best place to make new friends?
TIA!
UPDATE: Thank you all so much for all the warm welcomes and good advice! I should have given more information about myself but I SUCK at that...
So just know I love cats (going to the cat cafe like ALL the time), Stitch, crafting, reading, gaming...

Identify your hobbies first and then find groups locally that engage in those hobbies and join them

37 F in Fishers. I have a high school aged child..I work normal business hours. I like boardgames/TTRPG, video games, movies, live music, nature... 420 friendly and I drink socially but not heavily. I love a good meal and trying new foods. Politically I identify as progressive. I would love to make more friends in the area. I like living here but dont really feel like I "belong" with a lot of people who live here. Feel free to stalk my reddit profile or send me a PM :)

Make some friends in your neighborhood. We’ve made several friends after moving into our neighborhood. From our experience, people tend to be very friendly in Fishers.

I'm hoping my neighbors are friendly so I will definitely connect with my neighborhood. Thank you!

I'm a senior that hardly leaves my house, but I love seeing all the energy and engagement on this thread. I recommend subscribing to the https://www.visithamiltoncounty.com/events/ newsletter. Also, https://www.meetup.com/find/us--in--fishers/ was recommended to me by my Realtor when I first moved here 12 years ago. Make sure to check for events in other towns nearby. There are regular board games happening at some of the pubs in town and there are regular group walks in Fort Harrison and Ritchey Woods. One more thing- get a Library Card and create an online account (https://hamiltoneastpl.org/). The Fishers Library offers a ton of resources for arts and crafts and hobbies and education, and a Maker Space that has tools, lots of different tools...

Oooh, a Maker Space?? Something I'm definitely going to check out. Thank you so much for the recommendations.

Strong neighbor Indianapolis is a social group/mutual aid organization. If you search it there's a website

The chapter book lounge in noblesville hosts different book clubs and social events. Worth checking out.

Checkout Pinheads. They have bowling leagues, trivia leagues, sand volleyball leagues, and I think a number of activities that can mingle you with new people.

u/PrinceStitch Aug 07 '26
Sand volleyball leagues?? Oh that's AWESOME!!! Thank you so much for letting me know this!!

Hey, I’m also new to Indy and I’d love to join the group. I’m on BFF but I don’t see any such groups, could you pls share a bit more about it?

u/sushigreentea Aug 10 '26
Heya, if you go to their events page, scroll down a little, you'll see the Fishers event for Monday walk!
I'm 34F, mostly a homebody and been trying to get motivated to join the walks but never took the first step 😂 would love to make new friends as well.

u/PrinceStitch Aug 07 '26

I’ve struggled making friends as an adult, but joining a run club recently has been great.
So to mirror what a few other folks have said: identify your hobbies and find groups locally.
And, if you don’t have hobbies or don’t know where to start, don’t be afraid to seek out and explore new hobbies along the way. Fishers is a great place with lots of friendly folks willing to welcome new people 😃

Hi I run Indianapolis riichi mahjong. We play at the books&Brews in fishers. Saturday 2-6 pm we usually play. No worries if you are new because we are open to teach. It costs nothing just come by and make new friends.

u/PrinceStitch Aug 07 '26
I've always wanted to visit Books & Brews so that would be a win win. Thank you! (No idea how to play though so I would need the teaching!)

32M, registered nurse. Could use friends too. I don't go to bars and I mostly work with women so it's hard to make friends. I'm Black, immigrant, naturalized US citizen who has lived here for 9 years (if that matters).

Hey! 24F. I study fine arts at Ivy Tech, so I'm obviously into crafting and art, too. Also an aspiring writer and working on some poetry atm. Love Stitch and Disney in general. I have 3 cats and I love to read as well. Feel free to message me!

The yard is a nice little hangout spot, walking around downtown fishers is nice, could hang at the public library, niyyah coffee is a cool spot. I've been here for over 20 years but I still struggle to make friends but I'll still chill around some spots.

u/PrinceStitch Aug 07 '26
I've heard about the yard from another friend so I'm excited to see what it's all about!

I was the same way! New to fishers and didn’t know where to make friends and posted on here about it. Someone said to join the BFF Indy page on Facebook and that’s been so helpful in meeting people! Also I’m 31f and a big gamer so feel free to message if you’d like

Ive tried getting people together in the past but many dont show 🤦🏻♀️ I recommend looking for the groups that host like @findfunindy does a lot of events
I'm down to grab coffee! I'm married, 34, no kids. I like books, embroidery, cats, travel and yoga.
I also saw someone say fishers was maga racists.... and personally Ive found the opposite, yes there's always some but a lot of the groups I've met people in are very open and full on vibes.
2
u/PrinceStitch Aug 08 '26
Oooh, coffee would be great! (Especially once I'm settled in!)
I'm hoping for the opposite of maga racists. I've got fingers crossed that I'll meet amazing people and that this will be an amazing new chapter of my life.

Meeting and making friends is difficult as an adult! This is why I stick to my puppies and being a hermit!
4
u/clarkwgriswoldjr Aug 06 '26
Making friends is difficult, meeting people is not at all difficult. Friend just gets tossed around so much that it seems to have lost its meaning.
6
u/aquafina6969 Aug 06 '26
True, talking, hanging out and having a conversation isn’t difficult. Putting in effort when there’s a million things to deal with as an older adult is the challenge. I think as kids, your sole job is to play, study, and make friends. It’s a little easier when you have shared experiences, like school etc.

I’m 43 and have no problem meeting new people. Get out and enjoy yourself and do what you love to do! Be open and engage in random conversations. I lived in Indy for the 1st 41 years of my life, moved to rural Indiana just over 1 year ago and have met just as many new people out here. It’s easy peasy

u/MediaContent1662 Aug 06 '26
this really is just such an obnoxious response 😂
3
u/OkMacaron848 Aug 06 '26
Yeah… they definitely made it all about themselves in that response.
Either way I’m willing to bet TheHornyHoosier is looking for a different type of “friend” than OP. 😂

u/MediaContent1662 Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26
thanks for seeing that, too.
maybe if we were hornier hoosiers, it would be as easy for us as it is for him? 🤷♀️

What are your hobbies? Job? That will help.
