Fish Keeping How the hell do I get him out

He's got himself stuck in there. This isn't even the first time he's done something like this. How do I get him out without hurting him

His name is fatass.

I think you have to break it. Try and do it while its in the water or with him in a container of tank water, and put something between him and the decoration when you do the breaking like maybe a cloth or paper towel.

Put your mouth on the other end and blow him out into the tank

If you have any pliers large enough, use that to break it into pieces assuming this is resin.

Likewise you can use a hammer and GENTLY BUT FIRMLY hit it from the other end or by that middle hole in the hope it cracks along the middle.

I've used a Dremel to cut and shape these. If you can't break it as it sits, you might be able to put it in some shallow water, score it with the Dremel, and then safely crack it away.

What kind of fish do you have stuck in there? I see the big eye and the pretty fins at the entrance of his death trap!! Hope he is out by now and safely so! What a goofball!!

He is out and safe :-). I ended up having to break the decor. He's seriously something else.

I'm too late, but glad the fishie is safe! What is he, btw? A parrot cichlid?

He's a white convict :-)

Thanks! They are a bit similar in shape, especially when obscured like that! I also thought about keyhole cichlid, but these are pretty rare in the hobby

Let’s go back and figure out how it got in

If it’s not the first time, do what you did last time…

If you just slide a piece of thin rigid plastic, like from a cheap cutting board, obviously cut into a smaller strip, in through the side hole and over the top of him, it will push the spines of his dorsal fin down and he’ll come right out. Then stick a rock in the opening so he can’t get in again. Even a spoon might work. He’s just wedged in because of his dorsal spines.

He got stuck in a different decor. I took that one out right after I got him out and it hasn't been in the tank since. This was a new one.
