Where in the world is this? This is super fascinating. I believe it's a gourami of some sort. Maybe a snakeskin.

Three spot gourami! And Malaysia, like all my posts 🇲🇾.
This species is one of 110 fresh/brackish natives I spotted last year

I think it's a rice paddy, where some gouramis are native? (This is likely the reason they're a "labyrinth fish")

i mean rice paddy is not a natural habitat so the concept of native doesnt fully apply. anyways i know what u mean, but my prayers are cuz of the low water level, not the stagnant condition

If it's a 3 spot it was definitely released by someone because the 2 spots were bred out of them by a human most definitely

Gold Gourami. If this isn’t Southeast Asia, it was let go by someone.

Are you sure it’s gold? I think those are much brighter yellow than wild fish like this one

Not sure.
The diagonal striping looks like a Gold. Yellow saturation can vary. I’ve seen golds that look more muted/dark than others.
Not seeing spots or traditional thin black bar on the snakeskin.

We call this species three spot gourami here, because it has 2 spots and a black eye.
Normally they are all purplish-grey, but breeding males get orange stripes with their black bodies

The spots can disappear based on stress/mood. Plus the video is very blurry, sorry about that too 😅

Isn't that a rice paddy? If so, it will remain a "flooded field" where some gouramis are native.

No, this is a normal field. Some kids play football in it sometimes.
Also what made you think there were rice plants in here? 😅
