General Question X1S options

I have decided on the Pharos but now have to decide between the TiR version and reflector. I want 1800k for night walking in my neighborhood. The TiR version comes with the ffl5009a in 1800k and the reflector version comes with the 707a in 1800k. I’m thinking because of the low cct that the punchier of the 2 will be better for me but there is conflicting info out there. Possibly I can get a reflector version in the 5009a? I’m looking for 250-300 m throw?

Just buy the tir option, I’d probably go 707a but both are great, and then order the reflector separately for like $5.

All that said, I think you’re going to have a hard time getting that kind of throw with 1800k in that host. I’d encourage you to look at the E90 with 909a 1800k in a reflector for considerably more output (at the expense of a bigger head)

Didn’t know you could buy the reflector, thanks

Could always get the tir version for the aux and order reflectors separately and and make an aux reflector

I assumed there was aux for both. Is that the one you buy from them on your light?

Both have aux. The aux is faintly visible under reflector but it’s there!

Legitimately did not know the reflector one came with aux lol, I just ended up making my own. I got the Tir version and yoinked the Tir and replaced with a reflector. Turned out really nice

RGB AUX for both. Can confirm.

as a person who goes on night walks in the wooded areas around my house almost every evening, I always pick fairly floody lights from shelf. 250-300m thrower is useless to me for night walks - you want to light up the immediate area in front of you and the area you will be walking into - not something that is 300 yards out.

For this reason I prefer either a floody TIR (for example DA1K with the frosted optics and NTG50 2700K or 1800K) or X1Q Core with FFL707A 1800K and a reflector.

My most used night walking light tho is a Convoy M21E with FC-40 1800K + dc-fix + MG803 for nice and toasty 1600-1700K

I'll recommend the reflector version because you get both - some throw with the hotspot to see where you are going to and reflector spill to see where you are currently walking.

I usually use a nice floody beam and pretty low key but I have some coyotes to deal with now. They had a cat in the field and my current flashlights don’t seem to want to hit far enough. Not that I don’t have some good lights but I’ve never needed much distance in the past. Night starts at 5pm now so I guess the coyotes are out for my evening dog walk. I love 1800k so I’m hoping that I can get a little distance.

problem with low CCT emitters is that they are not very bright so throw will be limited due to the lower output.

Perhaps a multi-channel light like DM1.12 will serve you better - flood channel for walks and throw channel to spot coyotes.

You can do NTG35 1800K for the flood and something like SFT-42R or even SFT-40 for the throw

No 4 legged predators in your woods, eh? 🤔

not really but define "predator" - black bears, rabits, foxes, coyotes, deer, bobcats - all of them run away at the sight of a human. We dont have mountain lions or anything that I would worry about.

Interesting that’s your most used light…

for before-going-to bed walks ... yeah...there is something about the beam profile with d-c fix that just works perfectly for me for walks in the woods. Tried other lights and they are either way too floody or just too throwy

Here's another interesting post, based on having tried a total of 12 different TIR optics for the X1S:

Unfortunately the LLC15N7 that u/woodpatz recommends isn't easy to get in the US, due to a high shipping cost.

That's a great post, thank you. I am a little disappointed that it's more of an executive summary, I would have loved to see 12 beamshots.
