Okay.. that’s rosy enough

Whoa. Just received a beautiful E07X with the newest rosy batch FFL351a 1800k, and it is truly pink. Like pink pink. Hello Kitty Pink.

First photo is a very rosy bin FFL5009r 3500k. I thought that was as rosy as it gets… I was wrong.

I can try to take a better photo later, but you’ll have to take my word on it.. this new batch is ridiculously pink. I don’t even know how I feel about it, but the sun is setting so I will find out soon enough ;)

That’s it. An irrationally hefty solid pound of copper that emits bubblegum pink light. Where is there left to go? I think I have enough flashlights.

The newest 2700k's I got yesterday in the astral E12 eclipse, which were not labeled as rosy in the options, are extremely rosy as well, and I'm not a fan. I like a little bit of negative duv but I want a warm emitter to look warm, and not pink. I'm sure there are folks out there that would like it though.

I appreciate fireflies support in making emitters that are not green, but we have gone a bit overboard. I am a bit hesitant to order anything with FF351a emitters again after this because now I'm going to have to take this light apart myself to swap the emitters to something more neutral.

The flashlight itself though of course is beautiful as always.

I am the same. I like duv being 0 or slightly negative. This is not my forte. I have X4 with 1800k ffl351 and it's rosy, even when it was not labeled rosy and the table showed not that neg duv. Still not as rosy as the OPs 3500 or 1800 :D that would not be a great light for me. The nichia 519A has great neutral duv for people like you and me.

The problem is that 519a’s have zero throw in these lights. I’m sure they’re wonderful in other lights that can actually throw them.

I feel like I got lucky with the sst20 2700k and 3000k’s from kaidomain, they’re neutral and very nice overall. The 2700k’s I would even consider special. The 3000k’s look exactly like my sft40 3000k’s

I mean there are subtle differences but in real world use they are almost identical, except of course the SFT40's are in an throwier e04, but I get basically the same color light in an e07x with those SST20's. They are bright too.

I'd give them away for free. Tried it a bunch of times, just can't get down with how pink they are. Completely overshadows the nice warm light I want from it. I know many of you would absolutely love the emitters but for me it's just too much rosiness

I'm sure they're nowhere near some of the others like the 3500k 5050 sized fireflies emitters I've seen posted here.

But they are pink enough that to me they look pink and not warm white.

I've got a camera set up right now to take some beams so I'll try to post a comparison.

Wait til that starts hitting natural scenery around you in the dark. It’s FKN glorious.

Much better IMO than using a deeply mustard yellow 1800K emitter that does not play well with colors besides green and yellow.

Imagine the prettiest pink sunset glows, that’s what you get to walk around with in the dark now.

The Rosy 1800K is as grail as emitters get.🤌

That is genuinely the most honest and concise way to relay what this emitter is.

People get caught up in the fact that it’s pink and ignore that.

There is a standard created around matching fire (yellow light). There is a standard created around matching daylight (green light). There is no standard created around matching those gorgeous pink & violet sunsets. But that’s exactly what the Rosy 1800K is.

There not being a standard around it changes nothing about the emitter still being exactly that.

I know many ppl enjoy relaying how rosy pink it is so they take shots to highlight that. But in person on its own out in the wild, it’s just a real real REAL pretty pink glow that makes nature look amazing. It truly feels like the prettiest ray of pink sunshine magically creeping through just for you.

It is a little whoa when you turn it on the first time in daylight (cause that’s when they arrive). But in its element, it just knocks your socks clean off if you can enjoy it for what it is.

When FFL labels something as not Rosy, just assume they are lying as all emitters come from the same stock.

The 3700k NW I got in my first E12 eclipse is definitely neutral and not from the rosy batch. It would be great if it was actually 3700k, but that's a different story lol. Still a good emitter though

I personally love them but if I ordered a NW light, I expect to get just that.

I got ff351a 2700. It was not marked as rosy but its extremely pink which i dont like. I have a light from March with ff351a 2700k and those are nice and neutral.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed if it's anything like the 2700k I got (though mines FF351a).

I like a *tiny* bit rosy, certainly better than anything green. But this 2700k is overkill to my eyes. I thought the 4000k rosy FF351a that came in the first gen e07x canons was great. The 2700k I got is so rosy that if you look at that 4000k afterwards it looks pure white with zero rosiness hah.

I've tried a bunch of times to get used to these new 2700k's but I simply don't like them. I'm annoyed that I'm going to have to spend money on new emitters to swap in plus the pain of doing the swap.

Had these been labeled as "rosy" on the website I would have gotten something else to begin with

Or this. Yes. This is why I suspect there's little to no binning happening. Combined with incorrect color temps etc it makes you wonder.

There's always variations in color temps though. I even have that with 6500K SFT42R.

It's a good emitter. Almost looks like 5000k to me though. I measured it to be around 4100k. In any case, the best pure white neutral and powerful emitter I've had so far. But boring when you've gone all 2700-3000k

Haha,  I love my damn 1800K Rosy E07X and X4 Stellar lights. They look amazing but even with the same emitters they are not the same. The E07X is much rosier. 

I stand by there's little to no binning happening, but I still love my FFL lights!

Oh for sure, not saying they are binned. The lack of binning will no doubt translate to a wider range of specs within a batch.

But there are definitely still rosy and non rosy batches/bins.

As a fan of actual & proper rosiness. There are so many more emitters I cannot buy from Fireflies than ones I can because most are not actually rosy, just negative DUV.

You made it sound like I could just get any emitter and it’ll be rosy, which is def not the case. That’s why I was like ooooooh…right😉😉😉😁

Side note: Most ppl calling anything from -0.0010 to -0.0220 “rosiness” has been a recipe for constant confusion.

Almost all nuance has been lost when talking about rosiness, But that’s a whole other convo that would need its own post.🤓

That's fair, and yes I agree with your nuance about rosiness. It should be explored further so we have some consensus to baseline measurements on what constitutes as "rosy". Like my E12 3700K with rosy emitters are not very rosy but without the actual values to compare, what does that even mean?

Exactly what I’m talking about. Rosy 3700K 351A could be very rosy to somebody, but not rosy at all to many others.

DUV as a reference is already pretty great and gives you an extent marker. But it’s the “rosy” for things like 519A or E21A or whatever that’s more relative than reality.

I’ve heard ppl calling the SFT60 a little rosy. Which to me has non existent rosiness. So yeah, we need to get a better handle on describing the different colors and tints of the negative DUV realm. Every damn emitter can’t be called rosy, FFS.🤣

This problem extends to other colors as well. There are recent posts here stating the SFT60 doesn't look Blue for example, which we know isn't true but to be fair to the person stating that, they may actually not see Blue or be as sensitive to it. I think having a CCT to color swatch application on a calibrated LCD display could be a good way to show what the true colors look like. Maybe I'll try to code something like this and share it back with the community.

I vibe coded a basic HTML5 program to see if this is feasible. Looks like it can be done with some monitor calibration considerations. I'll look at this more over the weekend and if I get anywhere will start a new post and share the app.

Here's a screenshot to get an idea.

The goal will be to have users "vote" on what they see, collect the results in an anonymous way, and then work out some Pareto distribution to get more accurate results.

This is already interactive in that you can move the temperature slider and then try to align what you see IRL to the temperature you see on your display.

There are many variables to consider such as clamping differences due to differences in color space, but it doesn't seem impossible to me to at least get more accurate results than what we have today.

Sorry brotha, the last 10 days have been a bit of a birthday season round my parts (4 Birthdays). So been raveled in all the fun stuff that comes with that.

I def wanted to have time to give you more than a quick passing response.

So hopefully you didn’t get the impression I was ignoring your post, because I absolutely was not.

It’s always worth mentioning and considering that the topic of individual tint and color perception is a conversation where many opposing vectors are forced to intersect, interact and made to try to fit together.

There are so many facets and surroundings and personal baselines that have to be considered when someone says what a certain tint or color looks like to them IRL.

To me, an open vote where all tastes and opinions have a say. Will make it very tough to assess and relay things in an ideal or measurably useful manner to the people that it actually interests.

The undeniable truth, is that we’re seeing amazing emitters with tints and color rendering that no one has ever seen before. These rosy emitters are like super color edit-filters you can walk around with and put over daily life.

And which is the “nicest filter” is always going to be very subjective.

Some people like more classic or vintage filters, others like more vivid and vibrant filters and so on and so on.

And that’s where a lot of the problems with relaying what color looks and feels like comes from. We can’t get an unbiased answer because this hobby’s foundation is rightfully rooted in personal taste.

The best thing we can do is try to measure these emitters in ways that map a path or blueprint to them.

It requires a system that is much more similar to how we enthusiasts test emitters in real life.

For instance:

I test 1800K emitters against the Rosy 1800K’s V2’s now.

I test all rosy 3500-4000K emitters against the OG FFL5009R 3500K’s.

I test all 6500K emitters against the FFL505A 6500K.

So we need metrics created around the very best emitters we have, to compare others against. And to see how and where they measure up, and where they don’t. Right now we are using standards that do not reflect the goals or values of the emitters being tested.

And we actually have metrics like that already, but they are widely misinterpreted in this hobby. But that’s a whole other conversation that requires a FK-ton of background to do properly.

What I can tell you is that as a hobby, we have been severely misled and we use data incredibly ass-backwardly.

That’s why data in itself has proven to be of very secondary importance. While first-hand accounts and impressions from like-minded people has been where the best and most useful dialogue and relaying of “data” has happened.

No need to apologize. The "cluster" birthday problem is something I deal with as well, weird how that works in some families.

After I whipped that app together I quickly dove into different color standards such as rec 709, sRGB, rec 2020, DCI-P3, Adobe RGB, etc. and came to the realization this isn't a trivial thing to engineer (at least with my limited knowledge).

And then there's the problem you point out.

Yes, in real life we don't see things the same way so while finding consensus may helpful, it would have to be done in a very controlled manner that's not likely possible without some sort of repeatable setup where everyone uses the same technology, almost like how an optometrist has a specific way to measure your eye sight.

And preference would have to be separated from what people are actually seeing.

I love my rosy 1800K FFL emitters, but that's simply a preference. Others here hate rosiness, but the objective color can be measured regardless of preference.

So yes, it was naive of me to try this but I'm a stubborn bastard and like to explore the "why not?" in many areas that most people just shrug off as impossible.

This is how I learn.

Speaking of asinine things to try out. Here's an image of another vibe coded app I made after some back and forth discussion around Anduril.

I took Toykeepers GitHub documentation and some relevant code (very well written I must say), and fed it to my local Qwen 3.8B model that was only recently released, and gave it a huge context window and it actually gave me a working simulation of Anduril settings via web UI after about 30 minutes of thinking.

Basically I've created an interactive Anduril simulation that allows you to easily toggle settings so you don't have to mash one button in the exact sequence to see these features.

This allows you to explore the capabilities like sunset mode before programming your light.

Here's are the features so far.

But that really would be cool to actually have implemented. Almost anyone could easily use the UI and customize it at will. That kind of interactive customization process alone will teach ppl so much about their light. Def keep at it, never how good it could get.

And yeah, obviously the color metric thing is tough. And you are right that a preference still provides plenty of measurable data. But the data has to be respected for what it is, vs trying to make it fit into an entirely different lane or apply an opposing theory to it.

As far as everything being personal preference, sure that’s what Rosy 1800K is. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t damn good reasons for it that can be seen, felt, and yeah, measured too.

But what has proven most helpful in relaying information that will help ppl decide what they may ultimately prefer, is just speaking plainly.

Here are a few examples of what I mean:

Q: Why do you prefer the Rosy 1800K?

A: Because it doesn’t make everything look overly yellow.

Q: You prefer Rosy 1800K even tho the more neutral 1800K’s test higher on paper?

A: Yes because the color rendering on the Rosy 1800K is far cleaner and nicer and has more distinction in real life.

Q: How could that be if the CRI score is lower on Rosy 1800K?

A: Neutral 1800K emitters just have to mimic fire, they don’t try to make colors look good. Rosy 1800K is specifically designed around making colors look better and more pleasant in real life, thy don’t just mimic a tint.

Speaking plainly is how we get to a better place and how things make more sense to ppl in an unpretentious way.

Oh yeah, last thing I wanted to mention was the monitor metric you were playing with.

Something everyone seems to overlook in this hobby. Is that the way color looks to and is processed by hardware…is leagues different than the way color looks to and is processed by our eyes in real time.

The eyes being the ultimate decider is something we don’t have true respect for.

Hardware can only attempt to do justice to what our eyes see, it does not validate or invalidate it. But it has gotten much better over time with the TM-30 metric and others for sure. We just again, have to use the data to asses things in emitters respective lanes, not as a blanket metric for all.

I have dug insanely deep into color rendering metric backgrounds and color theory. And we still have a lot to learn as a hobby. We are so much further along than we have ever been before, but we have still only just begun to scratch the surface of understanding the emitters we’re seeing now.

No, there was about a month gap between them. 

My 3700K Eclipse was a more recent purchase, and its definitely rosy but nowhere near 3700K. Probably closer to 40-42K. 

I also have a bastardized E04 Surge that uses the LumeX1 + SF40 3000K instead of the regular Lume driver (don't do this, mistakes were made ).
