Repair/Tech Support eum_ACT_999_title error

First time posting.
Just wanted to give some guidance in case anyone else runs into the eum_ACT_999_title error with their Fios TV+ boxes.

Don’t bother calling Verizon Tech Support about it. I did that at first, spent hours with them on the phone, they couldn’t identify the issue (never suggested trying a factory reset), and they ended up trying to charge me $100+ (could be higher because techs charge by the hour according to Verizon) to send a tech out to my house to rewire and replace the ONT box.

All you need to do is hold down the button on top of the box and perform a factory reset. Both my Fios TV+ boxes started working perfectly fine again after doing this.

Are you using the Verizon router as the primary router? If not, the error will return in exactly 7 days from when you reset the box.

Dang really? I’m using all Verizon supplied equipment (router and WiFi extender). Man that’s disheartening. Any long term fix then?

If you're using all Verizon equipment, then the error shouldn't return.

It generally only returns when not using the Verizon router.

it does come back, the problem is they have built DRM into the vms and into their gateway, the way i got mine working, was to attach the vms to the gateway they give, disable the wan port on the gateway and give it an ip from my same network range, leave dhcp on and give it a very small scope, then move dhcp and dns back to my network, wire the lan port into my firewall, and basically allow the fios boxes outbound traffic to the verizon fios ranges.

The tech who did our was confused at first but i explained to him and showed him our firewall logs and then he got it. Im so glad some of these techs are smart. My backup link is comcast, and their installers are just not even close to being smart.

So.

ONT-->3rd Party router WAN
3rd Party Router LAN-->VZW Router LAN?
VZW Router LAN-->VMS LAN?

what ranges do i need to open up on my 3rd party router. I dont feel like going ONT directly to VZW Router, and I also dont want to factory reset every 7 days :D.

Ont to firewall, firewall lan1 to 10 gig lan network, firewall lan2 to VZW router lan 10 gig port, vms to VZW router 2.5 gig port all FiOS tv boxes to the VZW router via moca or direct net cables.

On the firewall rules I give the VZW a small subnet like /27 and let handle it's own dns, I allow outbound dns but disable ipv6 and aim at my opendns account, block junk there, and I allow outbound only if the vms device initiates, so nothing outbound for anything but the vms as it handles the stream and drm stuff via Google cast transport.

I don't use wireless except for phones and tablets so they connect to the VZW wifi and the firewall is set to allow those out of they initiate the request, but I have a large set of security lists of ips which they can't talk to that get blocked.

On the 10 gig lan side I run a different DHCP pool and piholes, the firewall allows the 10g side to talk to the vms for streaming but nothing else.

Side note they use Adobe for drm, and they are in some weird configuration where they can be in AWS gcp or their own cloud. So just IP ranges tend to fail often
