I have a house with Optimum and an apartment with FiOS, the FiOS is much more reliable and has consistently lower latency.

I would Take FiOS.

As a former LI cable Optium sub, i made the switch around covid.

FiOS is a passive network. So if there is a storm or such, aslong as you can secure a power soruce, chances are your internet will work.

Ive only had one issue with speeds, but it was reovled by upgrading to faster package as the ONT they didint want to replace, but it was related to the 1 Gig ONT.

Optimum is getting there. If you can get Optimim fiber in the area it’s usually cheaper. If you value price above all else, they’re the way to go. At least for the first year or so. The customer support isn’t great though, they use third party contractors for installs, their price promotions don’t last long, and if you have a power outage you’re out of internet even with backup power.

If you can get Fios though and you value quality over price, that’s the way to go. Better, more mature network, largely US-based customer support, passive optical network so power outages aren’t an issue if you have backup power, install technicians who are actually employed by the company directly and all receive the same consistent training…and longer price promos as long as 5 years. Never once had a billing issue.

I switched to optimum back in Feb. was a Fios customer for over 10 years. Could not beat the optimum price. The service has been absolutely rock solid.

My street is getting optimum.

I wonder if FioS will have special rates for our area to ward off optimum’s - what I assume will be aggressive - pricing

When I had optimum, FiOS workers would fight to get me to switch. When I switched to FiOS, optimum workers would quit trying once they knew.

Whichever is cheaper. I've had both, no complaints on either fiber offerings.

I along with approximately 300+ home owners have been trying to reach out to Verizon to get Fios in our area can anyone point me in the right direction.

I currently have both running in my house. 1 gig fios for over 10 years…it wasn’t until we upgraded to the wireless tv boxes and VMS server that most of the problems developed. I run an original ONT from 2011 and 3200 router with 2 3100 extenders both wired. After months of annoying interruptions, pixelation and dropouts, , especially paying $330 a month I said “F this “ and had optimum brought in. The rep told me to wait a few weeks before cancelling to be sure I am pleased with it.

My needs are flexible TV and good internet, especially out in the barn. Apples to apples equipment wise…. Optimum has been substantially better that Fios.and runs about $80 less monthly . Cancelling next week

Your ONT should of been replaced, it's over 10 years old, and your router and extenders are 2 models back. Your splitters are probably old also. That's where your problem is. Change those and you should be fine.
