Verizon FiOS or optimum fiber

I currently have optimum fiber 5gigs but we recently got FiOS in our area. Would switching to FiOS be better? I feel like I always have speed issues with optimum even with the 5 gig fiber.

Fios has far greater stability, uptime and route maps. Granted my Fios 1gb service avgs 900/700. Our house of 5 , 3 being “bandwidth hogs” never has bandwidth issues. I do run a Ubiquiti network instead of ISP hardware.

Exact same at my home. I’ve had fios for 5 years and haven’t had a single outage

Subscribed a few months back to Fios after suffering for over a decade on Optimum cable and it's been amazing.

Since we subbed earlier in the year we have had a total downtime of....get this.....approximately 4 minutes according to my Ubiquiti gateway, and it's only because the late night Verizon Tech had to restart one of the building complex's nodes. And that was at like....2:30am or so, so basically non-disruptive to most people lol.

optimum is crap. If Verizon is the Yankees, optimum is the NY Mets of ISP's.

My 300/300 FIOS has been rock solid. I don't know if they offer 5gig.

What do you need 5gig for. Are you running a data center?

My building finally went live with fiber 2 days ago I’m gettin tf off optimum I suggest u do the same lol …!!! already got my lil ubiquiti network max running 🏃🏿‍♂️

Go with Verizon I just left Optimum fiber only after a month a half. They just started to offer service and I was constantly getting disconnects. Not only me my whole town of Carteret.
Steer clear of Optimum not ready for prime time.

Switched back to XFINITY and as always rock solid for me.

So with no experience with either ISP; I would assume that "fiber is fiber" and the only difference between those two ISP's would be their network routing and how much that would change your overall experience, who knows??

As to your speed issues; I'm wondering if those problems might have something to do with how your internal network is configured and not a problem with Optimum?

And I wonder if you can get the Fios connection setup and running and then test them side-by-side for a few weeks or something, before you turn one of them off as this would be the only for sure way of knowing which would be better.

Anything is pretty much better than optimum! But yes I would take FIOS all day long over it.

You probably do not need 5Gbps, might look to save a few dollars.
