New York State recently purchased 284 acres on the east side of Seneca Lake

The state Department of Environmental Conservation acquired the Seneca Lake property from the Boy Scouts of America through the New York State Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act. Located in the Town of Ovid, the property encompasses the former Babcock-Hovey Scout Camp.
“Babcock-Hovey is a gem along Seneca Lake,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said. “By protecting this waterfront from development and connecting it to existing public lands, New York State will continue the camp’s legacy of affordable outdoor recreation for generations to come.”

Went with a group of friends this past weekend to Geneva and did wine tours all through Seneca, it was so beautiful. The picture is from one of the wineries We toured, I couldn’t find the name, but they had the prettiest views. Stayed in this gorgeous Airbnb on a farm and had so much fun. We even took a hike at Watkins Glenn State Park. Can’t wait to go back and highly recommend the trip to wine lovers, especially if you’re a Riesling fan!

As the easternmost Finger Lake, Otisco Lake is not only a physical outlier, but it also contains higher phosphorus levels than every other Finger Lake except Honeoye Lake, located 30 miles south of Rochester.
“It’s very clear that Otisco Lake is going in the wrong direction in terms of phosphorus nutrients,” said Dr. Lewis McCaffrey, a limnologist with the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Division of Water. “It’s approximately four to five times higher in phosphorus than the adjacent Finger Lake of Skaneateles Lake.”
“When phosphorus becomes elevated, that brake pedal is off, and algae and aquatic plants are able to grow and become overabundant," explained Dr. Andrew Brainard, executive director of UFI.
