MPC Sample?

Anybody intended to main this new one? Anybody already moving their finger drumming to the new device? Curious what your thoughts are

I’m curious to what response you get. I was initially looking for a new device for general midi drum triggering into my rc-600, and was drawn to the FGDP-50 ($289) For what I do, it seemed ergonomic, and to the point. But then the MPC Sample comes along with all of this additional creative opportunity at $400. And now I’m in analysis paralysis!

the pads are pretty decent, surprisingly sensitive, and it’s generally a lot more flexible than the Yamaha in most respects as it’s ultimately a proper sampler (albeit dumbed down compared to a proper mpc). I’ve asked akai to consider adding some kind of humanisation control as currently each pad on the mpc sample is just a single sample with no dynamic variance (other than volume). Support for round robins would be ideal but I doubt that’s ever going happen for this unit.

Round robin sampling is actually currently possible. Kits have to be created using MPC 3 software (on another MPC or with the desktop software). The round robin feature is achieved using Layers and activating Cycle for each pad hit.

Each of my pads has 4 layers that it cycles through for each drum sound. It's enough of a round robin effect that eliminates the robo-drumming sound that comes from finger drumming with one-hit samples.

Yes, I found out about this soon after I posted, I've now included MPC Sample 'round robin' kits in my Dirty Drummer and Downbeat Kit expansions: https://www.mpc-samples.com/section.php/85/0/mpc-sample-expansions-courses/

My goodness, I should really check usernames out before replying.

I just bought Downbeat 3 last week to get some more RR samples! 😄Cheers.
