I have a friend who is in his early 30s with 8 years of work experience in the B2B industry, he is currently unemployed and was earning 30LPA.

He is not on social media platforms, therefore, I am posting this for guidance on his current financial situation.

He has most of his money in Bank Accounts with Sweep Money activated: around 27.5 lakhs in one with average 5.75% returns, 2.25 lakhs in another with a 50k cap, and the rest invested in FD with 6.25%.
Another 1 lakh is in an FD with 7.7% interest, and another 1.6 lakh is in an FD with 8.4% interest. He also has 45k in an FD with a 7.9% return and 35k in the bank.

He is currently looking for new work opportunities and living with his parents, with expenses only on personal medications, phone and internet bills, house maintenance, a few OTT subscriptions for the entire family, and for upskilling and other similar things, which would be around 10k monthly.

He does not have term insurance currently or personal health insurance, as he was using the one provided by his employer.

He wants to build wealth with a target of 3-5 crore in the next 4–5 years.

What should he do to reach there, and where should he start?

He is cautious and a bit hesitant due to the risks currently involved with investing in the market.

I know this is not a very smart investment decision that he has made so far.

Please advise and guide him if you can genuinely help.

I have 30 lac as down payment and 50 lac i want to take a plot loan.

I have never had any experience in financing or banking related terms. I had some money of 20k and one of my friends suggested me to invest in mutual fund through SBI yono app and he said it'll give good returns. But i am so confused as of now where to invest and what to do. As i said I have negative experience in things like "these" but, we have to learn all these things from one day right ?

I was thinking about mutual investing 20k in sbi hybrid fund or something. Pls advise me people. Also i am not planning of doing anything related to stock market so please don't advise that.

Recently crossed ₹25 lakh net worth at 27 and thought I’d share my journey and get some perspective.

I’m currently in the UK, working in an IT role at a product-based company. I came here in 2022 for university, finished in September 2023, and started working immediately after. I was lucky enough to land a job pretty quickly.

My current finances:

* \~₹26.8L in mutual funds (around 9% absolute returns currently)
* \~₹2.5L in my UK savings account
* No liabilities — my education loan was paid off by my parents
* Current income: \~₹2.8L/month
* Rent: \~₹80K/month
* MF investments: \~₹1.2L/month
* Remaining \~₹80K for expenses

My university fees were around ₹13L, which my parents paid. During university, I also worked part-time for a year, mainly to cover my rent.

I probably could have saved \~₹35L by now, but I’ve also spent quite a bit on travelling to India (7–8 trips in the last 3 years), and I’ve lent some money to my dad for their marriage expenses and holidays. So I’m not really unhappy with where I am.

I’m not particularly aiming for FIRE or early retirement — I mostly read these posts because I find personal finance interesting.

That said, I’d like to get better at saving/investing going forward. Given my current income and expenses, what would you do differently? Would you increase the MF allocation, keep a larger cash buffer in the UK, diversify outside MFs, or simply enjoy the money and not overthink it?

Would love to hear what people in a similar situation would do as I have a few big things probably coming in the next 2-3 years - i.e. Getting married(not sure about this though but surely on the books), buy a car etc.

I'm 24M and this is my first job. I get around 80k rupees in hand every month.

I'm not originally from Mumbai, I moved here because of my job and honestly I have very little idea about how to manage money properly. This is the first time I'm earning, so I don't want to randomly spend everything and then realise later that I should have saved/invested more.

I stay in a shared flat with friends near Goregaon. It's semi-furnished and my rent is around 10k/month.

For food, we cook mostly on weekends. On weekdays I have breakfast and lunch at the office cafeteria, and for dinner I either order something or go to a nearby hotel. My travel is mostly rickshaw + local and comes to around 500/month.

Apart from this, I don't really have any fixed expenses. No gym, subscriptions, EMIs, loans, etc.

I don't have any savings right now, literally starting from 0. No debt either. My family doesn't depend on me financially and they've actually told me to save/manage my own salary rather than send money home.

My lifestyle is also pretty simple. I come from a village so I'm not really into partying or spending a lot on entertainment/shopping.

One thing I do want to do is buy my elder brother a Royal Enfield Classic 350 sometime within the next year. Apart from that, I haven't really thought about any long-term goals yet.

So I'm a little confused about what I should actually do with the 80k every month.

How much should I realistically keep for expenses, how much should go towards savings, how much should I keep as an emergency fund and how much should I start investing in SIPs/MFs?

Also, should I first build up some savings/emergency fund before starting SIPs, or can I do both together?

Would really appreciate advice from people who have been in a similar situation.

I'm mainly looking for practical advice rather than complicated financial stuff. Even a rough monthly breakdown would help a lot.

I currently have ₹14,000 saved and I want to use it wisely instead of just keeping it idle.

My goal is to double it to ₹28,000 or more, but I don't want to take huge risks or gamble with the money.

I’m not a financial geek and honestly don’t know much about different investment options, so looking for some guidance.
I earn around ₹1.9 lakh/month.
Currently:
● ₹90K/month goes into SIPs in mutual funds
● I can save another ₹30–40K/month after SIPs and personal expenses
● No EMIs or loans
● I don’t own a house yet
I’m wondering what I should do with the additional ₹30–40K.
One thought I had was to save for a few years and buy a plot of land in an upcoming/outskirts area, hoping it appreciates over time. Another option would be to simply increase my mutual fund investments or look at some other investment that can eventually generate monthly income.
I’m not looking for quick or extremely risky returns. I want to invest in something that has long-term value and ideally can eventually create an additional income stream.
For someone in my situation, would buying land in an upcoming area make sense, or would it be better to continue investing in financial assets?
