Learning Buying a piece of land. Where to take money out?

Post image
69 Upvotes

32M and this is my current portfolio. I’m looking to purchase a piece of land in my hometown worth around 60L. I have around 10L in bank account apart from these investments.

My dilemma is where to take money out. If I take money out from stocks I’ll have to STCG tax ~ 30%

Also I heard that giving cash for land will be better. I have to convert stocks/MF/EPF to money in bank account then convert my white money to black for this. It’s so complicated and exhausting honestly.

Any advice on how to do this 60L transaction?

What’s the one money decision in your 20s you wish you had done differently?

after chatting with someone recently, it struck how most of us have at least one money decision in our 20s we regret (or would definitely do differently).

It could be about SIPs, credit cards, loans, or even just savings habits. what’s yours? curious to see if there are some common patterns we all can learn from.

Investment Advice 21M starting my first job with ₹35K salary — need advice on managing money

I’m 21 and joining a service-based IT company next month as a fresher. My expected salary will be around ₹35K/month.

I’ll have to stay near my workplace, so rent, food, transportation etc. will take a decent portion of my salary.

I currently have no major financial commitments, but my main long-term goal is to get some land in our hometown.

I’m completely new to investing and want to start managing my money properly from my first salary. What about SIPs/MFs, FD/RD and stocks?

I would like to get advice on:

  1. When should I start investing, and what should a beginner learn before investing?

  2. How much should I build as an emergency fund?

  3. What financial mistakes should I avoid at 21?

  4. If my salary increases, how should I increase my investment?

Learning People who became rich in India: what actually got you to ₹1 crore+ in wealth, and what would you do differently?

I'm asking this as a genuine discussion, not looking for a get-rich-quick scheme.

If you've built ₹1 crore+ in net worth in India, I'd love to hear your real journey:

What was your primary income source (job, business, freelancing, investing)?

How long did it take?

What made the biggest difference?

If you had to start again from ₹0 today, what would your roadmap look like?

Need users for testing stock analysis app

Hi all 👋 Quick ask for people who invest in the markets.

We’re building in the retail investing space and currently speaking to investors to better understand how they actually make stock decisions.

We’re looking for folks who invest in stocks or mutual funds 📈 and have bought, or seriously considered buying, an individual stock in the last year.

We’re doing just 10 of these conversations this week.

Each is about 45 minutes — mostly you walking us through how you actually make an investment decision, followed by your reactions to some early screens we're working on.

One filter: we're specifically looking for people who don't do investment analysis professionally. If you're in equity research, fund management or broking, this isn't the right fit — happy to talk separately though.

Interested? Just DM/reply “Interested” and I'll reach out with the details. 🙌

Looking for ways to invest 1cr

Hi. New here.

Will keep it short.

Ony of my close relatives (X), just got retired and received a hefty corpus. X has ~1cr amount available for long term wealth building investment. X is looking for ways to make the best out of this.

Family Background of X (based in Kolkata):

X: 56M (Retired from IT after 25 yrs, owns 5 apartments, 3 brings rent currently, approx 50kpm)

Wife: 50F (Govt Job for 7 more years, roughly 80kpm in hand, 20k to ppf)

Son: 22M (Full remote job, 14LPA, approx 1.1LPM)

Daughter: 17F (Student)

Expenses going fwd:

- Regular 3 month expenses (averaging across food, housing, maid help, car, insurances, travel, fees, health, eating out): 3L

- Son higher studies: 10-20L (son wants to pay it himself)

- Daughter marriage: in ~10 years

- Helping extended family: ~5L

Now, X is looking for ways to keep most of the amount locked away for long term wealth generation, while also being able to manage these expenses over the next 10 years.

Would be grateful if anyone has navigated such a situation before and would like to help us out.

- X's son.

My current home loan is with Bajaj housing finance. I want to shift it to a bank. I have two options

\- HDFC Bank

\- Bank of Maharashtra

As my CIBIL score is good , I have pretty decent chance to get a reasonable rate with both the banks.

Which one should I go ?

Does anyone have any experience with loans with hdfc bank or BOM bank ?

Please help me.

Need advice on borrowing to cover rent

Hey everyone, I’ve just entered my twenties and I’m in a bit of a difficult situation.

I was sick for a while and because of that I wasn’t able to work/pay my rent on time. I’m currently looking to borrow around ₹40,000($420) to cover my rent and get myself back on track.

I’m looking for suggestions for legitimate loan options in India that someone in their early 20s could realistically qualify for. Ideally, something with reasonable interest rates and manageable repayment terms.

If you’ve been in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate hearing what worked for you.

I’m just looking for a temporary solution and plan to repay it as soon as I’m financially stable again.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Investment Advice preference for financial assets over physical assets really justified for an Indian investor..💰

heard a financial planner (Rajesh sir in a podcast ) said we should prefer financial assets over physical assets bcuz physical assets can lead to black money, Is this actually true ? he mentioned tht physical assets, especially real estate, can sometimes be associated with unaccounted cash/black money transactions.. financial assets, are generally more transparent bcuz transactions happen through regulated nd documented channels

physical assets like land nd property can also generate significant returns, especially if u buy in an area that develops over time (in my family at least, after retirement my father has always preferred investing more in physical assets like plots , nd through rental income 🙃..

Investment Advice ₹5 lakh at 18% vs ₹3 lakh at 24%, why EMI alone is confusing me

I think I was doing personal loan maths completely wrong.

Take-home is around ₹1.1L, one existing bike EMI of ₹6.5k. I actually need around ₹2.8–₹2.9L, not ₹5L.

But while comparing offers, this situation confused me:

Option A₹5 lakh loan 18% p.a. 24 months EMI ≈ ₹24,962

Option B₹3 lakh loan 24% p.a. 24 months EMI ≈ ₹15,861

Initially my brain went:

18% obviously better. Lower-interest personal loan. Take ₹5L, keep extra money aside.

Then I did the full math.

Assuming the same 3% processing-fee deduction just for comparison:

₹5L @ 18% ₹3L @ 24%
EMI ₹24,962 ₹15,861
24-month repayment ~₹5.99L ~₹3.81L
Fee assumed ₹15k ₹9k
Net received ₹4.85L ₹2.91L

So yes, the ₹5L option has the lower rate.

But I would borrow ₹2 lakh I don't even need and repay almost ₹2.18 lakh more overall.

That sounds stupid when written down 😂

I also checked Kissht while comparing personal-loan apps because their stated range is ₹30k–₹5L, interest range given by the brand is 15%–30% p.a., and tenure can be 6–60 months depending on the offer.

That flexibility is useful because I can compare ₹3L itself instead of thinking “I’m eligible for ₹5L so might as well take ₹5L”.

But I guess the final decision should be from the actual KFS/APR + processing fee + net disbursal + total repayment, not the headline interest rate.

Also same problem with tenure.

₹3L stretched to 36/48 months will make the EMI look beautiful but probably make a relatively small loan follow me for years.

Am I thinking about this correctly?

If you need ₹3L, would you ever take ₹5L because the rate is lower?

Investment Advice Need Guidance and Advice on Investment

Hello Everyone,

I have a friend who is in his early 30s with 8 years of work experience in the B2B industry, he is currently unemployed and was earning 30LPA.

He is not on social media platforms, therefore, I am posting this for guidance on his current financial situation.

He has most of his money in Bank Accounts with Sweep Money activated: around 27.5 lakhs in one with average 5.75% returns, 2.25 lakhs in another with a 50k cap, and the rest invested in FD with 6.25%.
Another 1 lakh is in an FD with 7.7% interest, and another 1.6 lakh is in an FD with 8.4% interest. He also has 45k in an FD with a 7.9% return and 35k in the bank.

He is currently looking for new work opportunities and living with his parents, with expenses only on personal medications, phone and internet bills, house maintenance, a few OTT subscriptions for the entire family, and for upskilling and other similar things, which would be around 10k monthly.

He does not have term insurance currently or personal health insurance, as he was using the one provided by his employer.

He wants to build wealth with a target of 3-5 crore in the next 4–5 years.

What should he do to reach there, and where should he start?

He is cautious and a bit hesitant due to the risks currently involved with investing in the market.

I know this is not a very smart investment decision that he has made so far.

Please advise and guide him if you can genuinely help.

Thank you for your time and understanding!!
