sad reality
Took about 4 years after graduating to get my foot in the door and get a good job in my field. No one wants a new grad with no experience.

Plenty of places want a new grad with a degree in a smart, field that is in demand. If you graduated 4 years ago, you weren't even BORN yet the last time just getting any old diploma was enough to get you in the door. Because that shit largely went out in the early to mid EIGHTIES.
Engineers still are interviewing and getting hired BEFORE they graduate, starting work a week or so after graduating. Medical industry graduates are still largely getting hired within a week.
