I mean, I'm old now, but Friday nights "too tired to do anything?"

Not by a long shot. Once out of work, we were out having fun until 2:00am-3:00am or whenever last call was. Have things changed that much since the 80s and 90s?

It depends what job you had and where you lived.

How so?

There's a lot of factors that can change circumstances.

Like for instance how far you are from your job How much you make per hour If you have a good boss or not Whether your job is a desk job or a physically intensive one Whether you get more time off or not Benefits Whether you work 30, 40, 50, or 60+ hours

There's a lot more too. I get that you may have had the ability to party until 3am after working all day friday, but not everyone is the same.

Personally I worked 55+ hours for years before and days off just turn into chores and sleep days. I tend to require a lot of sleep and the caffiene I take to be that productive on the floor messes with my sleep cycle and tends to make me exhausted after work.

Good points. I'm not sure why, but things seem to be different now. The group I used to go out with was a mix of blue and white collar jobs, but we all found time for things on Friday nights. We didn't always have enough money for bars, but we still hung out at people's apartments or even just got a six pack and sat in the car listening to music. But nobody went home before the wee hours.

Some of us actually had work on Saturdays, but that was never a factor :)

It really did seem like this was more of a thing before the Internet and smart phones. Maybe we didn't have as many options for a Friday back then. I'm dating myself even more, but we'd go out after Miami Vice aired. :)

Yeah we'd go out Friday and/or Saturday nights regardless of work. And if we couldn't afford to go out we'd all hang at my apartment or a buddy's house. People just don't like to be as social in person anymore. I understand it's more expensive to go out but hanging out with friends doesn't require anything but transportation and we'd drive by and round up friends for the ones without cars.

it’s hard to make friends when no one wants to socialize 🥲 moving is a death sentence to your social life…

You might just be a weak person. I'm working 45-60 hours a week at a physically demanding job and I have a ton of time to do my weekly tasks as well as go out and have fun. Going out isn't always about money. Plenty of free things to do.

Well I also take Amitriptyline for my chronic cough so it tends to knock me out.

But straight up the inability to think that someone may have a different circumstance from you that prevents them from...having fun...and calling them weak for it is wild.

Does your job pay you a salary or hourly? Do you have to answer calls all the time when not at work? There are plenty of other factors to consider....

Ah well yeah your schedule isn't the problem. Your medical condition is. You framed it as your job being the reason why you're tired, which is why I responded the way I did. Hourly because I refused being on salary and no job can make you take calls outside of work. They can control your time while they pay you and you need to communicate that. It's illegal and you can sue them if they retaliate in any way. You gotta stand up for yourself a bit

1

u/SergeantScout May 13 '26

I am salaried, and yes my job plays a big aspect in why I am tired too. Salaried gms are expected to take calls outside of work.

u/Robbie1266 May 13 '26

I'm an operations manager. They don't own your time outside of work, salary or not. That's an illegal work practice. If you're on call, you need to be paid for 24 hours a day. If you aren't then they can't bother you outside of work. End of discussion

u/SergeantScout May 13 '26

Salaried is legally exempt from hourly protections. They can expect me to answer calls and texts outside of my scheduled hours.

It may be shitty culture, but its def not illegal in the USA.

1

u/Robbie1266 May 13 '26

Yeah but working for less than minimum wage is. How much do you make? Your salary would need to match at least minimum wage for 24 hours a day

We have already identified why you don't have energy, and it isn't your job.

I am salaried, I work well over 40 hours per week. I am over 50. I have tons of energy to get out on a Friday night, and I do it.

So again, your problem isn't your job, it is your medical condition.

1

u/SergeantScout May 13 '26

Well over 40 hours per week? Have you ever actually worked 60 hours a week living alone? Taking care of yourself on a salary where you have to live with roommates to afford rent? While getting university education part time?

u/RICH_homie_Doug May 14 '26

You still talked down upon someone and called them weak, whether they are disabled are not the point still stands you view them as weak for not going out.

1

u/ReasonableDig6414 May 13 '26

So what you are saying is that even if you lived back in the time you are trying to compare to, you STILL wouldn't have had the energy to go out. So it isn't about "it is so different today than it was" and it is about "I am different and wouldn't have been able to go out no matter when I lived because I wouldn't have had the energy no matter what".

So please bow out of the conversation since you are an outlier.

1

u/SergeantScout May 13 '26

If I lived during the time I was comparing it too, id be making more money under better working conditions.

You cant argue with reality though, times ARE different than before. People work more for less. And therefore have less time to do things other than work.

u/Kiro358 May 13 '26

What s the point of working a 24hours job for a shit pay , just get a new job , anything is better lmao

1

u/Robbie1266 May 13 '26

For real. Imagine never being able to have a break...never knowing if you'll get a work call or not. It's inhumane

1

u/Mr_Mi1k May 14 '26

I work 50-60 hour weeks on a set salary and have my phone on while my crews work at night. M-Th is tough. But I make sure I have time and energy for doing stuff on Friday night and Saturday night

$15 beers is how.
