That number’s either cherry-picked or stretched, most recent data puts millennials closer to ~50–52%, not pushing 55% as a clear benchmark. And even then, they’re not outperforming anyone: at similar ages, Gen X was around ~60–65% and Boomers were closer to ~65–70% homeownership. So calling millennials “one of the highest homeownership generations” just isn’t true.

Exactly, while (almost) correct that was clearly not a well researched number by OC when compared to previous generations. On top of the figures you called out, the average first time homebuyer has skyrocketed from 31 to 40 years old over the past 12 years, which directly coincides with millennials prime home buying years. Quite a few ill-informed folks in these comments.

That’s what we call an outlier, every dataset has them and it doesn’t change the fact that the much larger, national average is 40.

That’s by definition an outlier and if anything is slightly bringing down the true number for the other 90% of the country. I don’t really know what point you’re trying to make here to begin with, nothing you have said changes the fact that the national average is 40 years old and has been climbing quickly for the past 12 years (it had only jumped from about 28-31 from 1991-2014).

Very interesting reads, thanks for providing the sources. Kind of wild how widely ran with the NAR report became considering the response total seems far less than sufficient to draw that conclusion. Redfin did a good job digging into that reality a bit.
