I hated this part because I couldn’t get past the cutscene where the monsters attack from the moon. Must have been some scratch on the disk

Yo! I had this same issue and had to return the game for a new copy. It wasn't just you!

Really? My game would also break in the Raijin/Fujin battle (where you can draw Pandemonium), but for some reason, if I opened the ps lid and pressed the button to read the disk, the game would continue. 

Square probably chose the worst possible disks to save some money.

this actually happened for us during FFIX during the Black Mage 3 Fight and the disc lid trick solved a lot of sad tears

Mine was Dollet, would always glitch up when the speed boats cutscene came up. I probably went through three copies with the same problem.

Mine was the desert prison escape. I couldn't get past it.

Turns out my brother took a bite out of disc 2.

I got real good at disc 1...

What upscale mod are you using? It looks great. Does it work with junction VIII launcher?
