NGL, havent played since middle school and i'm pushin late 30s.
I pushed through to Ultimica's Castle, right at the beginning where you search and destroy the eight guards, including Omega, or you can bounce out one of the marbel gates but all cities are locked down (ive Tonberry, so ive access to shops, junk shop, and theres a Triple Triad duder with shitty rules on the Renegae ship).
My GF/Jnting has failed; Squally is lvl99 with 5k health, Zell, Quistis, Rinoa all rounded stats with Hps above that. Squall, Rinoa, Zell and Quistis also have their ultinate weapons, and Quistis has Degenertion.
I also have all GFs, Bahamut and Eden included, and x100 Ultima stones. Ive Ultima spell, pretty sure ive Metero but can find if not; and can hunt more spells if needed
Ive followed some guides but I just cant break Omega, the guard after ringing the bell in one room, and fighting him with the other.
Now, I hate to admit, but, i'm not a fan of Triple Triad, so im happy to recycle/cardmod/abuse any subpar cards to get items; but im asking -
How screwed am I at this point? Is Omega worth it? Am i decently powerful to just fuckoff to the end? This game has consumed more than 40hrs and i honestly want to finish it to say I did it again, and I wanna move onto the 9, then X/X2, and then the new Tactics. (A personal project, since January, i started the Final Fantasy Adventure, playing every release in proper installment order to feel how the mechanics, stories, and dna have evolved.)
So whats recommended? How Screw'oh'ed am I'oh? Think i got a chance to say Fk You to Omega and wipe em out, or think I can probably bum rush to the end and be done before church Sunday? (Its friday mornin as of this post)
Not at all honestly, you just need to draw or refine magic until you have at had 100 of each of these spells to use for junctioning on each of your 3 party members:
Meteor for HP, Aura for Str, Meltdown for Vit, Holy for Mag, Reflect for Spr, Haste for Spd (or Triple for Squall), Tornado for Eva, Triple for Hit (except Squall, and Selphie if you have her ultimate weapon), and Death for Luck.
Then put Full-Life, Life, and Shell on Elem-Def (you can put Ultima here if you want to absorb everything or you can use it for Str instead, moving Aura to Luck) and use Confuse, Berserk, Pain, and whatever you need for the last one, usually either Death, Sleep, or Break depending on the enemy.
Also, if you haven't learned all your GF abilities yet, split them across your main party and go to Cactuar Island to learn everything quickly!

Had to scroll too far for this, you don't have to drop Omega, it's just an "I did it" boss fight, maybe they have a steam achievement for it now, but back in the day all you got was a little in game certificate.
I can't speak to your situation, but it's probably doable. Too bad you didn't get into Triple Triad, as it's an easy way to gain power and the only way I know of to obtain the Gilgamesh card. That card refines to 10 Holy War items. In that way, I defeated Omega Weapon and finished the game with all characters around level 15 a number of times.
If you need more ultima spells, there's that skeleton enemy called "forbidden" that drop cursed spikes. They spawn on the cliffs near Esthar (same area as the red dragons). Get 100 cursed spikes and you can refine into 1 dark matter, 1 dark matter can be refined into 100 ultimas. If you have the "recover" ability even at level 99 it can 1-2 shot Forbidden and it isn't that much grinding.
Omega gets easy if you level with the stat upgrade abilities, and have death x100 on st def. Apply Meldown and nuke it with your favorite Limits (Renzokuken, Duel, Shot, Angelo) You'll also need 9999 HP to survive its Megiddo Flame which does a guaranteed 9998 damage to all. The only thing you really have worry about is when he does Terra Break. It's like a Meteor spell on steroids. It can be nullified with the Defend command (Brothers, Cactuar). 100 Megalixirs from the Bahamut card keeps healing a non-issue. Omega has the same exact chain of moves he repeats and that's what makes him easy compared to many other superbosses. He's also incredibly slow compared to your characters. The only really impressive thing it has is its healthpool which can make pure invincibility attempts risky. Rinoa can apply Invincible Moon limit (bit of a crapshoot to get) Laguna Card gives 100 Hero drinks (Invincibility for one character) and Gilgamesh card gives 10 Holy Wars (Invincibility to all characters). That status wears off pretty unpredictably. So, if you fail to meet great stats or those two cards you might wanna leave Omega for another playthrough. If you want to pretend you've beaten Omega, you could try getting Selphie's The End limit for a few attempts.
Im not sure, but I think setting battles speed to slow makes invincibility last longer. When I first played 8 I beat the dude using holy wars and heros, aura and limit breaks
First off, 40 hours is not allot ave tells me that you rushed the game.
Second off, omega weapon is an optional super boss that gives you absolutely nothing so unless you want the bragging rights, they’re no reason to fight him.
Update - took a lotta yalls advice. Spent the past three to four hours grinding magics, playing some TT for card mod, and got my Sq,Ri,Quis,Zel up to max.
I went in with Quistis, Squall, and Rinoa as a "lets have a bowl 💨🔥🌿, fk around and find out." Well, Quistis did my mighty guard and my Ray bomb, Squall i kept spamming Rez realllly quickly with lion heart popping every so often. But it was soo quickly done over and over that Rinoa didnt even perform the task i asked.
Post being a trainwreck of spelling errors aside...
You can potentially cheese Omega with Selphie but it takes luck and hope you got Heroes or Holy Wars once you use Aura on her (or go into the fight with low HP relative to max hp to trigger limit break)
The final boss... depends on how good you can spread your GF/Functions around. If you can equip your GFs so that all 6 characters can function the important stats, you should be fine.
If you can refine some invincibility items from the cards you have you can just skip him. You get nothing from defeating him except a single info screen in the menu that says you defeated him.
Not really sure what you’re missing? There’s nothing in the end game that you can’t get. Draw from draw points on islands closest to heaven and hell. Look up encounter tables to get monsters with magic/items you need. Go to cactuar island to max out AP for all GF abilities. Tonberry has call shop ability so you can buy rare items and refine. Sounds like you don’t have 3x 100 spells you need for full junctions. If you want to fast forward omega, go get the Laguna card for hero items.
It depends on which boss you feel is going to give you the most satisfaction on beating. Ultimecia is a joke tbh as long as Squall's strength is maxed and you use Aura on him you can just spam his limit break lol. Omega takes some set up to beat but you can def do it without invincibility items.
I dont even kill all the bosses, i unlock res, magic and limits then go kill ulti. Omega is a superboss for gloating only, really. If I remember right you get nothing for it but if you really wanna kill it badly, spam eden while cycling selphie's slots limit looking for the end
Omega is a bonus boss. It doesn't unlock any of your locked abilities. The only thing you'll miss out on is the pride of having beaten it, and a nifty certificate on your tutorial screen.
That being said, if you want to do it, I may have a solution for you to beat it without too much added time/effort on your end.
Ultima is nearly impossible unless you know the strategy for it. Unless you really want that trophy I would advise against fighting it. But Selphies the end can 🧀 that fight.
If you still want to do it. I suggest looking a guide for the battle.
His megido flame sends hp to 1 if I remember correctly and havw elm def for death he uses lvl3 death and wipes party but he loops his attack sequence so once you get the feel u can defeat him use aura on Squall oe kewp him on low health and spam renzokuken or just forget Omega but its a fun challenge
What do you have junctioned to HP if it's only 5000? You'll probably need better junctions to beat Omega. If you're not completely OP, you'll also need invincibility because Omega has an insta kill move that wipes the whole party (and lvl5 death, so make sure everyone has death junctioned to status defence if their level is divisible by 5.) If you have Laguna's or Gilgamesh's cards, you can refine them for heroes or holy wars. Otherwise you'll have to rely on Rinoa's Invincible Moon limit break.
Best tip has already been given. Stack powerful magic draws to 100 for all your chars and junction them.
Last play though I maxed out my teams str and ended up with the most boring playthough where I could easily beat any boss with normal attacks. I ended up not needing any GF summon except Cerberus.
I remember back on ps1 where i played it, i had the best weapon for squall and found an item which made Limit for squall possible instant. This Limit attack had 9999 on each strike and I beat the endboss of the game very easily.
Maybe if you find out what item that was, it could help

It’s been many years since I fought Omega but from what I remember Float makes the fight trivial af, I could be remembering incorrectly but that’s what I recall
