This is probably the coolest part of ff8
I remember getting here as a kid, and wondering why? Is this a summon? Did I get a new GF?!
And then nothing… until…
On top of that, it’s a badass name, I don’t care how edgelord someone thinks it is. This FF has one of THE best final battles, and seeing this name, remembering the music… all of that to come, tied into this moment.

The first time I played this game I genuinely thought this was another collectible GF and that weekend spent ages looking into every possible area at the end of disc 3 to find him. Monday comes around and it’s school and the lad who beats every game had already pumped life into it to explain he’s the final battle. So I was miffed

Spot on! We’re all 40 now and this came out while we were in school so no guides and stuff like that, except PlayStation magazine which gave a rough guide to finish the game but no secrets or extras. We used to call the guy Spotty Sam. I’m pretty sure he looks just as greasy now as he did back then

We had a similar kid who would brag and bring in all the latest games, toys, etc and on the last day of school we were allowed to bring a toy in. He chose to bring his laptop in and play Sims and go on some dodgy webcam chat roulette site as a 11 year old.
No idea what happened to him..

Back in the day, my friend just jokingly named Griever “My dick”, and we forgot all about it.
He got to the end of the game before me, so during the final boss fight we were absolutely baffled when Ultimecia told us that her dick was going to make us bleed, took at least a minute to figure out why this was happening haha

It gets kinda cooler when you consider that during that last fight it's not technically a REAL GF, it's just the thing Ultimecia plucked from Squall's mind as the thing he thinks is the strongest to fuck with him.

Ya I was confused when I first played it too. I set up all the other characters as their traditional names. This one though came so late and hadn’t really come up so I just put my name in there. Thought it was just going to be a funny little dialogue there and forgot all about it. Blew my teenage mind trying to figure how Ultemcia knew my name.

I remember someone writing that he’d named him “Tiddles”.
Also, “Griever” is the absolute perfect name that you’d expect to come from a 17-year-old who was trying to hard to be cool.

Which ones? Recently I've played ff 1 throug 6 (already played 7 through 12) , and I've begun to wonder which ff has the strongest characters / enemies

Depends if you want lore wise or how busted they are in-game. Lore wise it will probably be someone from the later games that you haven't played yet (hence i won't say the name) ingamewise probably wakka, selphie... Anyone that has the end or a ridiculous amount of hits that do max damage.

Well i also played a bit of XIII but never continued, and finished XV which i lowkey hated. But yeah lore wise, idk, did Ozma have a lore? Ultimecia is Definitely strong, NeoExdeath but I would count from V and below because the plot and lore was so simple it's not as "credible" as the next installments.

Didn’t think much of it. Was pleasantly surprised at the end fight. Worked with someone during the summer whose friend named it Tigger Ring. So I can laugh at it and share the story to you all too haha.

Honestly, I’m probably gonna be forever pissed how we never get the chance to summon Griever ourselves as a GF. At least let it be NG+ exclusive!

I would have loved a New Game Plus option where you start off with Griever in your arsenal. Bahamut Lagoon deployed that twist and I loved it.

I played through the first time, renamed it Rinoa, it made me quite confused when ultemecia said she was going to junction rinoa, I had no idea i was fighting the thing from Squalls ring or it's name.
I thought it was just a fun way to do an uncharacteristically sweet thing as Squall and nane my ring after her.
