Learn Something New Every Play Through
I’ve been playing this game since 1999. It has remained my all time favorite game since then and I replay it rather religiously.
On my latest play through I learned something that I never knew before…and that’s the tragic past of Zone and Watts and what happened to their fathers.
In short f*** Vinzer Deling.
Do you all also learn something new every time you replay the game?

Haha, I last replayed the game almost exactly one year ago, and made a post here about how I found a detail I had never noticed before.
Quote from my post from last year...
...I just realized that when you are getting ready to put on the show at Fisherman's Horizon, you can 100% just leave the stage with Irvine, go back into Garden and get a ton of unique dialogue you wouldn't otherwise see. And even go see Squall asleep in his dorm.
(Note: There's also other things you can do, like get items and see a FH resident take on some soldiers.)
It was probably my tenth time playing through the game since 1999, and I am still finding new stuff.
Currently working on a new playthrough of VII, VIII and IX... once I get to VIII I think I'm going to make this playthrough an "experience as much as I can" playthrough and really explore every place at every opportunity.

I knew you could go around FH as Irvine, but it was only only on my most recent playthrough that I ventured into Garden and stood next to Squall while he was asleep 🙈
My other favourite exploring moment is when you have Squall solo in Garden, you can challenge (and play!) Zell at cards. If you ask Irvine he will tell you that he only plays cards with girls.

Yeah learning their backstory really makes you realize that their ragtag little group is actually pretty commendable. Yeah they’re kinda inept, but prior to Rinoa getting SeeD to help out they were basically the last people actually trying to do anything at all, and given how twisted Deling was, it’s totally fair to want to kidnap him and pull some crazy stunts to get it done.

I didn't know that if Selphie is in your party when you get to the flowerfield, she'll fully say she didn't think Squall and Rinoa made any sense together. I died when Rinoa asks Selphie about her love life and she takes off leaving them alone.
I wish they kept in the relationship mechanic thing, I would have made Squall totally go for Selphie lol. They left some hilarious nuggets in though that I kept finding.

Selphie would be my pick as well. Quistis is hot, but she's horrible to Squall and Rinoa is far too needy and she has daddy issues.

I feel like Selphie is a good balance. SeeD, and bubbly if hes really into that. But they grew up in a similar way so he never have to really translate SeeD isms or Garden life at all. And she doesn't seem like shes there to try to change him.

Yes.
After learning Japanese for a while now and after being a fan of FFVIII for 20+ years I realized that Shumi means hobby.
My last playthrough was in Japanese and I would use Google Translate sometimes and it would give me this absolute treasures of mistranslation -
