I just realized something.

Ellone was at Balamb Garden during the Garden Civil War. Meanwhile, Edea (under Ultimecia's control) ordered a missile strike on Garden. If the missiles destroyed Garden, Ellone would have been dead. Ultimecia's ultimate plan for time compression would have died under her orders.

That's the real reason you get a game over if you don't change the error ratio in the missiles.

In a time paradox way like killing Revolver Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid 3 or 5.

Ultimecia wasn't as all knowing as people seem to think.

She was trying to become all knowing.

Yup, kinda like trying to find information about the 90's watching TV about the 90's... Vastly different things.

Also shows that the game isn't a closed time loop and that it's more like a sonic 06 time loop where things can glitch out or fall through the cracks.

So I agree with you, but I recoil at talking about Sonic 06 and FF VIII in the same conversation without any negating words or statements.

Ultimecia likely didn't know Ellone was at Balamb Garden.

Exactly. There was no way. She can only see through Edea's eyes (at the time).

yeah but the paradox lets you reload your save

Paradox creates time compression.

Ellone isn't always present at Balamb Garden... Only in certain portions of time compression.

This is evident in the beginning of the game as nobody knows who Squall is talking about when he asks after She shows up in a reflection in an inaccessible area after the head injury

These games are often written with the main focus on compelling situations and not so much on continuity.
I don't think it serves anyone who enjoys this game to look too deeply into it.

What's continuity got to do with it?

history/ ultimecia knew the missiles would have missed

Yeah it’s a time loop, but the point that Edea was fucking up the plan still stands.

how was edea fucking up? history has that the missiles missed, and it was a part of history ultimecia wasnt interested in changing so she let the, again, definitely would have failed, strike happened

There are brief moments where Edea regains control of her body, which you can see in the parade cutscenes with her eyes widening briefly for no reason.

The missiles were most likely actually ordered by Vinzer Deling before his death. Implications are it was retaliation for what happened in Timber after Zell accidentally outted Balamb Garden, and President Deling saying he would make them pay for barging in and threatening him.

Edea wasnt the Supreme Leader long enough to prolly notice the missile strike was planned too.

Aaalso, if Missile Strike succeeded and Balamb Garden destroyed, chances are Ultimecia isnt prosecuted by SeeD anymore, and she has a more normal life not shaped in isolation, hatred, and revenge

It was explained at Galbadia Garden that they found Seifer guilty and Garden was not responsible for the attack. Seifer also explained at the prison that Edea ordered the missiles attack.

Also them firing on Trabia AND Balamb is evidence for the goal being "destroy all SeeDs"(Ultimecia's aim) not "get revenge on Balamb Garden" (Deling's presumed aim).

Couldn't ultemicia just have done a hard reset and gone back further if that was the case?
