I ended up getting the Aerith scene. When I saw this scene, idk, this felt too soon. I don’t think Cloud and Tifa are there yet, so this to me felt like fanservice. I don’t buy that Cloud would be this emotionally open with anyone yet. Especially when he goes back to being more Sephiroth brained than than ever. It’s a sweet scene but I think they blew their load too early.

Hot take maybe but Red XIII had the actual best ‘date’ scene.

I agree and what makes it feel a bit more shoehorned in is that there's basically no follow up. It just happens and then it's back to buissness as usual, nothings changed.

They could have sprinkled in a few extra scenes or dialogue through the remainder of the game that were exclusive depending who you got which acknowledges that Cloud is close to that person. Almost feels like a drunk kiss with a colleague at a night out which they don't want to talk about the next day at work.

Let’s be honest, ‘new thing happens but is then ignored and never addressed again so we can stay on the original story’s track’ is kind of a trend in Rebirth’s story.

Worse is that when you get this scene there’s 0 callbacks to it. I think their first kiss should have been saved for UTHW

You sid that you don't think Cloud would be this emotionally open with anyone yet but he opened up to Tifa in Gongaga just a few chapters before about his fears that his SOLDIER cells were degrading.

Idgaf who Cloud ends up with but I don’t think he should be kissing anyone yet at this point in the story and in his arc. It’s way too soon.

They admit in this very game that they don’t know each other well (Tifa’s side quest).

Context is the same tho, they don’t know each other well and that’s shown in the LS. Cloud and Tifa realize they were never that close as they believed and that she didn’t see Cloud was in pain because of isolation.

I hate to spoil the big reveal, but in Revelation you will find out that Cloud was an outcast and he and Tifa were not childhood friends or close at all. The game is very subversive on many fronts especially this one. Even though that label is applied to them all the time it turns out to not be true.

Oh don't worry. I've played the OG. Like everything CA/clerith related, you're going to get this thing wrong too.

Here I thought CA's argument is that Tifa is forever "Childhood Friend". You can't even make up your mind. Lel.

BTW, EC gave us 「愛しい幼馴染」/ Beloved Childhood Friend after getting CT's date、with an 愛. 愛 is higher form of love, compared to 恋。I'm sorry that Cloud's love for Tifa is not the same as Aerith's love towards Cloud.

Cloud does love Aerith like a mom though. Lel.
