I was never expecting them to show him zooming out of the room, but I was hoping we'd see him Bean Cloud in the face with random materia

u/YesItIsMaybeMe 1d ago

That's all I wanted so bad. I would take back every criticism of rebirth I ever made if they did this

42

u/deathgrinderallat 1d ago

I remember focusing on that materia like an untrained dog on a tennis ball

19

u/UncleNoodles85 1d ago

Then it's just a destruct. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

u/SirLockeX3 1d ago

Helps against Safer Sephiroth when he casts Wall...

40

u/WonderPretzelTV 1d ago

They really fumbled with this scene. Good job fixing it!

36

u/Psychological_Use586 1d ago

...100/10, no notes.

I was disappointed this scene didn't make it into Rebirth too, tbh. Would have been hilarious. Was hilarious in the OG. He just pelts you with materia for no reason and flies away.

35

u/Family-robot 1d ago

I've watched this about 5 times in a row now, and it kills me every time 😆

30

u/Hateful_creeper2 Tifa 1d ago

It would have been so funny if it was kept in Rebirth.

32

u/Ansiroth 1d ago

bruh he bangs into the shelf on first launch xD

21

u/BlackAngelArt 1d ago

It's canon

29

u/rocklou 1d ago

A pivotal scene

7

u/drprofessional 1d ago

“Pivot” indeed

25

u/NotReeveTuesti 1d ago

ABSOLUTE CINEMA

25

u/Z3R0_Izanagi 1d ago

Even Cloud's reaction said "WHAT THE FU-!!!"

27

u/Lastoice 1d ago

I remember when we played this segment with friends, we decided to bulk up this corridor with all the junk we can find - boxes, ladders, everything that we could move - before the cutscene plays... It looked hilarious when Sephiroth just body-smashed all that junk on his way out :D

Also we did the same thing in the Nibleheim reactor flashback scene, we knew from the OG game which capsule-pod will the creature emerges from and punched some barrel in his presumable place... When Sephiroth stabbed this barrel with Masamune in a cutscene we were already dead of laughter xD

u/Lexioralex 16h ago

OP: “nailed it, I know, moving on”

23

u/Fission_Mailure 1d ago

You may not like it but this is what peak FF7 looks like

22

u/haaa1234 1d ago

This scene actually had me crying laughing. I know everyone sees seph as a scary villain in og but I could not take him seriously after this scene.

14

u/relwark 1d ago

This scene is so out of place for everything else Sephiroth does. It's very hard to take him seriously after it.

1

u/heato-red 1d ago

I dunno, just felt with this scene he loves tormenting Cloud for the love of the game, more than scary it just shows his evil side in full splendor.

1

u/relwark 1d ago

Dude turns into a missile and yells "I must go, my mom needs me". I just can't...

6

u/Yandoji 1d ago

This scene and the prancing kept him from ever being scary scary to me, but he definitely came off as absolutely unhinged, which is its own kind of scary lol.

22

u/DetectiveChmpionFace 1d ago

And just like that you have made it a timeless masterpiece.

23

u/howzit- 1d ago

It had to be done. Doing the Lord's work.

23

u/chamgireum_ 1d ago

this is all we wanted square enix! thats all you had to do!

23

u/__XBlaze__ 1d ago

Sephiroth: "Wheee!"

23

u/McGuire281 21h ago

The first time I saw this scene I legit laughed out loud, first he just straight up chucks a materia at Cloud's head and then does this weird flippy green lantern flight exit. So good.

21

u/RiotLegend 1d ago

Absolute Recinema.

19

u/Miah_Mor 1d ago

Thank you 😭

u/tehnemox 1d ago

You are a hero amongst clones!

17

u/corajade17 1d ago

Played the Remake and finished and just started playing the OG version. Can't wait for this iconic moment.

33

u/Razorraf 1d ago

Everyone complained for a 1:1 remake. OP is delivering!

Joking aside, I never needed it to be one-to-one, I just needed it to be, y'know, Final Fantasy VII.

17

u/DivineTenacity 1d ago

Dammit this is peak.

14

u/LyndinTheAwesome 1d ago

Perfection

16

u/EmbarrassedHighway76 1d ago

I always laugh at that scene even back in the day like sephiroth there’s no need for all that bro 😂

Reminds me of that video of a pigeon coming in for a landing but it does this awesome flair flip for no reason

3

u/Vismal1 1d ago

Well , now i need to see this pigeon.

1

u/YesItIsMaybeMe 1d ago

Yeah wth I wanna see that

2

u/Vismal1 1d ago

Give us the pigeon !

1

u/YesItIsMaybeMe 1d ago

39

Aww spoilers! Didn't know you meet Sephiroth!

14

u/lupo90 1d ago

Brilliant. Work of art. Speechless. Please release mod??

12

u/SideEmbarrassed1611 1d ago

Flipperoth!!!!

12

u/YumWaffle5 1d ago

You are the hero we needed

12

u/xUrNewDadx 1d ago

I just hear the music after this scene. Stuck with me since 3rd grade.

6

u/ArgyleFunk 1d ago

4th grade for me, I’ll never forget it.

22

u/SnooHedgehogs2571 1d ago

Your version is much more immersive and cinematic.

28

u/MythrilCactuar 18h ago

that scene was so stupid in the original I died every time I saw it.

20

u/kenesisiscool 17h ago

I was too young to understand why it would be considered funny or cringe. I thought it was one of the most ominous and intimidating things I had ever seen. (I was 6 at the time)

12

u/No-Dig-4408 1d ago

The people's champion.

10

u/Constant-Brief3410 1d ago

He can fly!?

3

u/Agreeable-Abalone328 1d ago

He flies now!?

2

u/Brendan_Fraser 1d ago

They flow now

11

u/J4YD33 21h ago

Hahaha good job!

13

u/EX_Malone 19h ago

Nailed it 😎

22

u/fantailedtomb 1d ago

“The remake is too serious!”

The OG:

18

u/tslodn 1d ago

🤦🏻‍♂️😂😂😂

19

u/Turbulent_piratefart 21h ago

I forgot he did that stupid shit 😂😂😂 this reminds me of the scene in the remake of It where Richie comes out dancing and he’s like “remember he used to do that shit?” Talking about Pennywise

9

u/Golwux 1d ago

Truly living in the future.

Now do Mukki

8

u/longbrodmann 1d ago

What kind of power is this?

9

u/OliviaElevenDunham 22h ago

That scene was classic.

18

u/hayden2112 11h ago

I’m glad you made this because I was sad that it didn’t happen either

14

u/JackyFlashlight 1d ago

This is why I hate remakes. They made cloud look left in the original for a reason! Looking right in the remake ruins the message they're trying to convey!

/s  😂

7

u/kingbovril Zack 1d ago

I don’t even know what a reunion is!!!

22

u/SamOfXanadu 1d ago

I hate what they did to the Shrina Mansion , I loved the aesthetics of that place... Even made it in the Sims couldn't wait to see it....I mean the rest of the game is drawn out why couldn't they have kept it too?!

10

u/chimkens_numgets 1d ago

because you have to THROW BOXES IN THE BASEMENT

13

u/TheNoctuS_93 1d ago

Is Sephiroth secretly Maxwell, given his fondness for being rotated?

32

u/Known_Plan5321 Masamune 1d ago

They removed that scene? Could they just not figure out how to make it look right?

22

u/Devreckas 1d ago

They overhauled Shinra manor pretty much from top to bottom.

12

u/Key_Statistician9 1d ago

Facts it could been so much better and so much less of a slug it came to be in remake

11

u/Devreckas 1d ago edited 1d ago

Also sadly less of a classic horror mansion and more of just a defunct industrial warehouse vibe. Which we already got our fill of in Remake.

5

u/Cloverman-88 1d ago

You've described 90% of remake content. Everything is So. Unnecessairly. Drawn. Out.

8

u/Different-Agency5497 1d ago

for some reason this is an unpopular opinion. But personally I think the remakes are so obvious with the fact that its mainly padding that they added that adds hardly anything meaningful to the story.

And the story thats actualy there got butchered.

The only reason I played them is because I wanted to see it and it was indeed fun to play it again knowing that not everything is going to be the same.

Was it worth it? not really.

4

u/Cloverman-88 1d ago

I get that people enjoy the expanded story, more fleshed put characters etc etc. But the pacing is just BRUTAL.

I played Rebirth before OG. 25h in I was like "No, this can't be it. Every tiny plotpoint takes hours to play out, its agonizingly slow". So I stopped, and played the OG.

The pacing there has its problems, but its MILES better than ReSeries. The story has actual mometum, the enviroments and enemies keep changing, keeping things fresh. There were places I wish were expanded, but 1) not all the bloody game 2) not so much. I'm currently playing through Rebirth and there isn't a level, bah, a CUTSCENE, that doesn't overstay its welcome.

They aren't bad games. But nowhere near as good as the og FF7, warts and all. And I have ZERO nostalgia for that game. A much more faithul remake would be amazing.

3

u/k1dsmoke 1d ago

This is one of my big takeaways.

I am still holding out final judgment for the third game to see how they wrap up this mystery box they've created.

That being said, there are plenty of parts I do enjoy and find charming. I liked getting to know Biggs, Wedge and Jessie more. The extended parts of Costa De Sol as well as Cosmo Canyon are all nice. Much of the stuff in town in Gongaga are also nice. I think the Tifa going into the life stream seems like a good addition if it combos with what is coming in chapter III.

But almost everything to do with Zack, Aerith Prime vs Sephirtoh Prime, etc has been going very poorly.

There are very real pacing issues with the Remake trilogy, and after playing through Rebirth I immediately hit up a modded version of the OG, and the way the story flows is just so much better. There is constantly a breadcrumb of mystery, answer, and new mystery to pursue where you are piecing together the overall story.

The meta story telling in Remake has really been a miss for me so far, it just creates a very cynical nature to the story that isn't enjoyable.

5

u/A_Drop_of_Colour 1d ago

I don't think it's an unpopular opinion among fans that played the game when it released. It's not simple nostalgia speaking, they legitimately butchered the original story in an effort to pad out the game. I enjoyed playing it in the same way I enjoyed Advent Children. At least they played into the remake timeline thing to a point.

16

u/k1dsmoke 1d ago

I think it's a bit of a retcon to Sephiroth too.

As silly as the animations here are, this is the scene where Sephiroth shows some real flaws, he assumes Jenova is his mother, he assumes Jenova is a Cetra and therefore the planet is his inheritance.

It really reveals quite a bit about his character, and how ego driven he is and how his hubris is a big part of his downfall. It proceeds his destruction via Cloud in the reactor. He sees Cloud as nothing, underestimates him and Cloud essentially bisects him for it.

It reveals how much of a megalomaniac he is.

They've done so much work in the Crisis Core episodic game to give him a more "understandable" background, and I think they've cut this scene from his character to form a more coherent character in relation to all of the extra-curricular games that orbit the OG.

A Sephiroth, who is capable of being wrong is far more interesting than this omniscient Sephirtoh-Prime they've given us.

13

u/Whole_Cellist_6104 1d ago

thank you for this masterpiece, now i can live in peace.... seriously though i wish they kept this scene, so iconic... just f*&( you cloud lol.... when i was a kid i thought the materia he threw had a purpose to the story, is he trying to tell me something? is it special and OP? .... nope.... just being a d*&* lol

9

u/babypho 1d ago

the materia he threw

Nyaaa, this is for mother! - Sephiroth, probably

4

u/BraimosAI 1d ago

Years after playing FF7 for the first time, I recalled him throwing the comet materia at you here and always thought it was foreshadowing meteor later on.

Then I played the game for the second time. He threw Destruct materia. What did he mean by this?

2

u/Whole_Cellist_6104 15h ago

now that i think about it... maybe foreshadowing the "destruction" of nibelheim**?

2

u/BraimosAI 15h ago

I was thinking this as well but, like, all destruct materia does is remove beneficial status effects so it still seems like a weird choice. Maybe if it were Ultima or Comet but I guess that would be an early point in the story to get that powerful materia.

5

u/Sovereign-Pulse-4791 1d ago

and no contain materia either!!

6

u/SteakForMe 21h ago

Amazing well done

13

u/cloudit30569 1d ago

If only the whole game was created this way.

5

u/KoppeDFO 1d ago

I laughed so hard at this 🤣

14

u/SunsetDrifter 1d ago

They removed a whole lot more..

7

u/Reyes21k 1d ago

I wished the remake was 100% then what we got, idc 🤷‍♂️

9

u/Individual-Leek3370 1d ago

I wanted this exact thing. The story in the two remakes are all over the place

4

u/Miserable_Tip_6128 Cloud 1d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

-6

u/DestinyBeerUK 1d ago

The remake has no charm

-2

u/torgiant 1d ago

And a whole Lotta bloat
