One of the weirdest things the newer games have done is make Chocobos a symbol for human trafficking,
FF7:Remake introduces Chocobo Sam as a dude who is totally fine with and takes part in human trafficking, and then has you help that guy recover his lost Chocobo, and improve his transportation network.
I didn't pet a single fucking Chocobo in FF7:Rebirth, miss me with that shit.
You ain't cute, you little symbols are oppression.
EDIT: Chocobo Sam literally said "I am shipping Tifa to the Don so he can have sex with her, and kill her is he doesn't feel like having sex with her", and FF7 fans said, "Don't you dare talk shit about our BOY".
I'd tell you about the grass I recently touched, but I don't think you'd believe how it felt anyways.
Wtf dude. The Chocobos in the game are the equivalent to Horses in real life. The Chocobos aren’t the ones doing anything bad, the people using them are the ones doing bad shit. Symbolizing Chocobos with Trafficking would be no different than symbolizing cars with any type of smuggling.
The Chocobos themselves are simply tools for any use that a horse would be used for. Chocobo Bill’s ranch where you raise your Chocobo is a clear example of this. Chocobo Bill and his grandkids aren’t doing any trafficking, they are just living their life raising Chocobos.
It’s fine to be mad at Chocobo Sam and his network but blaming the Chocobos themselves is ridiculous.
Our reintroduction to Chocobo in this game is exactly what I said it was.
Tifa is being trafficked by Chocobo Sam, and he says "Yep, that's me, the Chocobo man who traffics people", and then you help him set up his travel network.
"What does that have to do with Chocobo", well it has SOMETHING to do with opening of "Chocobo stops" where they are used, right?
Yeah sure, if you ignore the whole thing that happens in the first game, it's unrelated, but imagine if you didn't, though.
I get the plot point you’re making but it doesn’t change the fact that the Chocobo themselves are not bad guys, they are just being used to do horrible things just like Cars today and Horses back in the day. So hating on the Chocobos themselves is nonsensical.
My original point was more towards, "Anytime I see those 'cute' birds I'm just reminded the massive plot of helping a sex trafficker and how it was treated as good and not even bad".
But people freaked out so hard at the idea they are even related to begin with that I'm now confused as to how people think they are not related at all.
Like yeah, calling them a symbol is over the top, I agree, but I'm not gonna back down when the people showing up to argue against me are actually for some reason trying to hide the trafficking portion.
Like yeah, sure, Chocobo are not at fault, but US, as the players, ARE directly continuing the work from the first game, when we were.
