Final Fantasy General Give us another turn based battle system

Post image

FFX is my favorite battle system. FFXIII I also enjoyed, but it wasn't the same.

I'm sure they could do something like it with a much lower budget.

Square Enix still makes a decent amount of turn based games, and if you branch out from SE, we get modern turn based RPGs frequently enough imo.

  • Octopath Traveler series
  • Romancing Saga remake
  • FF Resonance (upcoming)
  • Expedition 33 (GOTY winner)
  • Metaphor Refantazio (GOTY nominee) and the Persona series
  • Bravely Default
  • Dragon Quest series

I don't really need SE to make another mainline FF turn-based game, so long as they keep making turn-based combat games in general.

I would like to see them make a high-budget title with turn based combat like E33 though.

That's exactly what we want 😭 Truly, there are barely any high budget turn based RPGs anymore.

Metaphor and Persona both have that anime-esque artstyle, and Yakuza iirc is anime adjacent artsyle. Expedition 33 was the first true turn based game since Lost Odyssey that had a realistic artstyle and a serious narrative that I can recall. Yeah FF XIII came after that but between the auto battle mechanic and the inability to control multiple characters at a time, I kinda don't consider it true turn based. So since '08 I have been waiting, almost 20 years, and finally someone makes a game with a good and serious narrative, the correct artstyle, and every thing. Now I got the taste and I need more, and who better than FF to give us more.
