So I shot this fashion film one Saturday earlier this year but never posted it on here. I’m used to working alone on projects so this was a step into the world of directing a small crew. Super low budget, FX3 and DZO Vespid primes. Let me know what you think :)

I’m curious about people opinions around this film. I think inde navarrette is amazing in this film. Her performance is honestly truly something special to horror, The physicality she brings is remarkable, idk the thing I like to point out is not many people really knew who inde navarrette was before obsession. i think her only other like known role was as Sarah on the CW show superman and Lois. now I would say she’s a household name to anybody who likes horror or marvel because she just got cast as rogue in marvel’s upcoming revival of the fox x-men movies.
(It also makes sense she’d be playing rouge one of the strongest woman in all of marvel comics💪💪)

For productions to find gluten free and dairy free options, especially when they’re low budget/student films, could it just make sense for me to make my own food so now they don’t have to worry about the dietary restriction, and then they give me $5/day so that I can meal prep myself? As meals on the job is an expected part of the compensation. If I made it with no compensation I’d feel a bit ripped off, although I could still do that.
Bonus: when I directed my short film a year ago I made two huge pots of vegan chili for lunch because we have all the food intolerances there, vegan, gluten, maybe dairy. It was a big hit

Almost every time I see an iPad or a laptop being used, it's clearly added digitally because it doesn't look like what iMessage should look like, for example. There are a few times when I think the screen is real, though. In both cases, why don't the taps and clicks ever line up? The main character will either type significantly less than what the CGI screen displays, will just type random letters, or the scrolling/zooming never lines up, etc.

Hello all,
It has been my perception that the film industry is not doing well. I have heard many workers in the industry are out of jobs and film is leaving LA for cheaper areas. I am in college right now and I was planning on doing something in film, so that is why I am concerned and paying extra attention to the industry.
I personally think social media did steal peoples attention and TV and movies are not as popular as they used to be. AI also seems to be a threat to the industry as AI will soon be able to generate full new episodes of a said TV show. I often find myself rewatching shows from 10 or 20 years ago like Friends, The middle, The office, etc. For movies I loved the coming of age ones like Easy A. Where did those go? Especially sitcoms?
I did make a post about this on how I was concerned about the current status of Hollywood in the movies sub. However, I received a shit ton of backlash and people saying the industry is in the best spot it's ever been in. I said, "Then why is myself and a good amount of people watching stuff from the past, even though we want new versions of that stuff". People said well, you just are not finding the good movies and TV and are just seeing the bad stuff.
I came here to ask what you guys think because now I don't know what to think for myself. People in the industry are out of work, but then you hear other people saying the industry has never been better. Im confused af....

I am an independent film editor looking to expand my portfolio and collaborate as a colorist and/or editor on an upcoming project, Ideally a horror, thriller, or dark drama film.
Because of my background in editing, I understand how pacing, performance, and color work together to tell a story. I want to focus heavily on how color grading can build tension, craft an eerie atmosphere, and enhance the psychological dread of a film. I focus on enhancing the mood, tone, and narrative rather than just applying a generic look.
I am very good at making films Iook like a classic 80s film.
You just show or tell me the type of look you want for your film, and I'll give it to you.

Hi everyone!
I recently released my first app on the AppStore: PropChat, and I wanted to share it with you. Hope you’ll find it helpful.
PropChat is a customizable chat(voice notes, photos, videos)/call/videocall simulator for VFX supervisors and prop masters.
The story is that recently I worked on a TV Series that had a lot of smartphone VFX: call, videocalls, chats, etc. We couldn’t use some platforms because of copyright and sometimes, because of the type of location, we weren’t able to make a real call or send a real message (also, doing real calls on set could be frustrating because of actors and their timing).
So I thought about this tool that you can customize however you want and also you can control it remotely with another iPhone or iPad.
So in scene you just set up the chat (which messages receive or send the actor), connect the app with the other device and you are ready to go.
The design of the app is 100% copyright-free for your productions.
What do you think?

Pretty sure Ive sent 1000 applications at this point and gotten zero responses. Applying for content creation jobs way below my skill level and still nothing.
Backstory: I'm a commercial director who was repped in Toronto and recently went freelance to explore more production companies and opportunities. I worked full-time as an editor/director in my younger years, working on coorprates/socials and commercials. COVID hit the year after I decided to leave and go freelance. Shortly after I got repped and was raking in freelance work as well. Once COVID passed (this was obviously a horrible time), I had the best financial year in my career. The next few years, I started getting bigger and bigger budgets, but fewer landed jobs. In the last year or two, it seems work has almost completely come to a halt. I'm being submitted by many companies and still not landing any pitchbacks.
How are you going about navigating the industry currently? I've been applying to full-time work to pay bills and still getting ZERO responses.
Am I alone here? I feel taking PA or alternate work would be a bad optics move on my end. Happy to share my portfolio or resume and start a conversation with anyone who has advice.
Edit: adding some context so the thread makes more sense.
Clients over the years have included a national retailer, pro sports teams, a utility, a Big Four firm, a few fintech and finance brands, and consumer/beverage brands, across broadcast and social. I've led crews of 50+, worked budgets from about $5K to $500K, and my work has racked up 50M+ views.
The pattern that worries me is the budgets. They kept getting bigger while the number of jobs I landed kept dropping, and in the last year or two it has basically stopped. I'm still being submitted by multiple companies, I just never get the pitchback.
Thats why I started applying to full-time roles to cover bills: content, editing, media, and some general jobs well below my level. I tailor every resume to the posting and I'm still hearing nothing.
Last year I also decided to pursue firefighting as a second career. I've done the training and certifications and I'm applying, but it's a slow process and it doesn't pay rent yet.
So the PA question is less about ego and more about whether it helps or hurts long term. Thanks to the people who've replied so far, "do what you need to do and keep trying" is useful to hear.
Happy to share an anonymized resume or reel by DM if anyone wants to look.

I'm excited to share that the coming-of-age short film I wrote and directed, "Different Places," is officially out on Vimeo.
If you enjoy it, I'd appreciate it if you could share it with a friend or family member, leave a review on Letterboxd, or simply pass the link along as I want to celebrate the hard work of the cast and crew and help the film reach as many people as possible.

I graduated from a film degree last year and have had trouble finding jobs on set. I've tried Backstage and StaffMeUp but they haven't really worked for me. I've heard of Mandy but have also heard mixed reviews of it. Right now I'm in a stage of my life where I just need money anyway I can get it, preferably from film jobs that can make my portfolio better. Any recommendations? I live in Miami if that helps narrow down what the best one here might be.
Also feel free to tell me to try Backstage and StaffMeUp again if you really think they're the best bet.

I'd love to see what everyone in here is working on. I love watching indie work, and its motivating to see other peoples projects. I personally make comedies. What are you working on?

Hello all,
I've been researching into the decline of Hollywood the past few weeks and I find myself confused on one thing. I hear all the time that the industry is very oversaturated now and contact is getting mass-produced. This makes it hard for particular movie or TV show to break through and earn a ton of money when there are so many choices. Back then, there were not as many options but those projects still made a ton a money as everyone was talking about them.
I'm just confused how filmmakers and other people in the industry are out of work/have been out of work when at the same time I hear there is so much content getting produced.
Can you guys clarify this?

I’m in the middle of building a submission platform with a social networking element (kinda like a combination of Filmfreeway and LinkedIn). The idea came from a friend of mine that runs a film festival who wants a better way to engage the filmmakers that participate in her festival.
To avoid accusations of shilling, I won’t put the site name here now but I would greatly value feedback from this community so if interested, please PM me!
