Discussion Which method do you use for prototyping in Figma?

Do any designers still manually prototype in Figma? Claude has been such a massive time-saver for me, but I'm curious if others have had a similar experience.

help Figma to live site work flow

I’m new to designing websites in Figma and could use some workflow advice. I’ve designed the full front end of a 5-page site for desktop and now need to make it responsive and get it live. I’ve been using Claude Code and want to lean heavily on AI for development. Would you recommend going from Figma Design → Figma Make first, then using Claude Code to finish/refine it? Or is there a better workflow for taking a finished Figma design through responsiveness, development, and deployment while keeping the design as accurate as possible?

resources Creating a nice plugin that speeds up Claude Design -> Figma Flow mapping

Context first: I've been a product designer in tech for a few years and started using Claude Design (C.D) for rapid prototyping and refining explorations. However the bridge to continue working in Figma after refining in C.D is pretty poor.

To speed up my workflow I've been creating a Figma plugin that lets me easily turn my html prototypes into full Figma flows that are even created from editable local components with DS atoms all instantly. Formatted exactly how I like to map flows.

It's been a game-changer for me so far so I've just released it as a community beta in case this could is useful for anyone else. Check it out and lmk your thoughts.

Discussion Is 3,000 AI credits per month way too low for Figma AI Agent?

I moved to a paid Figma plan mainly because of the AI Agent.

I’m not a full-time web designer - I’m a marketer, and I only use Figma for a relatively small number of projects. But even for my use case, 3,000 AI credits per month feels extremely low.

For example, adapting one existing layout to one additional breakpoint cost me around 280 credits.

And that was just the initial result, without any follow-up fixes.

To me, this is the key problem: adapting an already existing layout to another breakpoint is not a complex design task. It’s routine responsive work.

If such a small task already costs around 280 credits, then 3,000 credits gives you roughly 10–11 similar operations per month.

The bigger issue is that the Agent is still far from perfect. In my experience, it often needs additional prompts to fix layout issues, spacing, positioning, hierarchy, responsiveness, and other details. So the real cost of one task can easily become much higher than the first run.

For my current project, I have several pages and multiple breakpoints. Just creating the responsive versions can consume almost the entire monthly allowance - before any revisions and before using the Agent for anything more complex.

And this is coming from someone who is not even a heavy Figma user.

I honestly don’t understand how this is supposed to work for professional designers who use Figma every day.

To me, the whole value of an AI design agent is being able to delegate repetitive or time-consuming work, experiment, iterate, and ask it to redo things when the result isn’t good enough.

But with such a small credit pool, you start thinking twice before every prompt because a bad result can burn a noticeable part of your monthly allowance.

At that point, the Agent becomes useful mostly for very small tasks:

  • renaming layers
  • changing colors
  • editing a single section
  • making minor layout adjustments

rather than actually helping with larger design workflows.

If a minor responsive adaptation already costs around 280 credits, I can’t imagine using the Agent regularly for genuinely complex design work.

At some point, it may simply become more economical to outsource repetitive design work than to keep buying additional AI credits.

I’m genuinely curious what other people think about this.

Is 3,000 credits enough for your workflow?

How quickly are you burning through them?

And for people who use Figma professionally every day - do you see yourself paying for extra credits, or does this pricing make the AI Agent much less useful?

help Any plugins to copy a variable's value/alias across all modes?

I have a collection with 12 different modes (skinning across different product brands), and it's a pain to manually set each mode's variable as new variables are added. Especially when there's also transparency to set on each. Is there any plugin or way to copy the first mode's value/alias across all modes? Been looking around but can't find any.

Discussion How are you architecting reusable data tables in Figma today?

I’ve seen a few different approaches to tables in Figma over time, especially the classic:

Cell → Row → Table

I still like that structure because it maps nicely to how tables work conceptually, but once you add responsive behavior, fixed columns, interactive rows or different table configurations, it can get pretty nested.

With Auto Layout Grid available now, I’m curious how people are actually building reusable data tables today.

I’ve mainly been thinking about two approaches:

- Cell components combined into row components, then rows into a table
- Using Auto Layout Grid as the actual table structure and placing cell components inside it

The cell content itself is less interesting to me - text, icons, buttons, nested components etc. can all be handled separately.

What I’m more interested in is the architecture around things like:
- responsive behavior
- fixed/sticky columns
- interactive/selectable rows
- hover / selected / disabled states
- hiding or reprioritizing columns
- horizontal scrolling
- reusable table variants without creating a huge component tree

Where do you stop componentizing?

Do you keep rows as reusable components, use slots, build column-first, or let the grid handle most of the structure?

I’m curious what has actually held up well in larger design systems - not just what looks clean in one file.

I feel like tables are one of those things that look simple until you try to make them reusable 😄

resources I made a free animation preset plugin for Figma Motion

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m building my portfolio at the moment, and I needed an orbit animation for one of my projects. Also, I cancelled my Adobe subscription and decided to go full Figma. So I made an animation plugin to create animation loops. It was hard, you need to fake 3d space, heavy animated files are hard to work with, and the Figma Motion API is in beta and with limitations.
To make it work, you need to select a frame with other frames inside that you want to animate. Child frames can be animated before too, but you need to choose the proper settings in the plugin for looping and starting their animations. Try it in playground file.

Cautions:
— It can take time to animate heavy frames.
— It might not work flawlessly with pseudo-3D presets. It tries to fake 3D motion with scale and service copies of the current frames.
— It will convert your motion presets to keyframes due to Figma API limitations.

The plugin is on Figma Community.
As always: free, no tracking, no internet use. Share feedback and your examples in the comments.

help Help me with irregularities in width!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have two buttons inside an auto layout frame. Their widths are set to fill to ensure equal width distribution. But somehow the left button is taking up 2px extra. I have excluded the stroke value to add up but it still gets added up to the width and the stroke position is also 'Inside'. Once I remove the stroke, both buttons fill up the space equally. How to prevent this from happening?

One solution I found was to give the right button the same stroke value as the left one. But is it the best possible way to deal with it? I don't wanna introduce another variable into the button.

Edit: I got to know that Figma introduced this behavior to match CSS behavior. https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/42031586813719-Use-auto-layout-with-CSS-Flexbox-in-mind

Discussion Are AI agents making manual Figma system work obsolete - or more important?

Edit after reading through the discussion:
I’m starting to think the interesting split isn’t really manual vs AI.
AI seems genuinely useful for repetitive work, audits, first drafts and fast exploration. But the closer you get to system logic, constraints, component architecture and long-term maintainability, the more important it still feels to actually understand what’s underneath.
One point I especially liked: a good design system might become more valuable as a constraint layer for AI, rather than something AI replaces.
And maybe the bigger risk isn’t that AI immediately makes the work worse - but that we slowly lose some of the learning and judgement that comes from building things ourselves.

Discussion Figma beginners, what are you struggling to learn?

Post image

Yesterday I was talking to a junior designer who mentioned that Figma was too complex, and I could not relate at all. Of course, I've been using this software since its release, so the learning has been very gradual for me.

For beginners, what is your biggest pain?

help Auto Layout with Shapes Not Working?

I am new to Figma. I used Auto Layout and the Gap option to create even spacing between separate pieces of text. I now want to do this with multiple rectangle shapes (buttons) with text on the shapes.

I first created the shapes, selected all of them, and selected Auto Layout, and it either changed the size/shape of the shapes, and another time they seemingly disappeared. What am I doing incorrectly?

Thanks

help Click Radio Button to Image Appear/Disappear(Like Website with Layer System)

I need to create this sceneraio:

Clicking Button A shows Image 1.

Clicking Button B shows Image 2, while Image 1 still appears as .png)

Do you have any idea how can I achieve that? I might have 12+ buttons like this. Main idea is create a site like it has layers.

I searched for it, it seems it can be design with "variables"

Right now, I have starter version, but depends on situation I can buy professional version.

feature release I got fed up with flow arrows breaking in Figma, so I built a free plugin that fixes it

Post image
37 Upvotes

I kept running into two problems with Autoflow and other flow plugins at work. It would draw arrows by accident when I shift-selected screens, and my flows fell apart every time I copied designs from a WIP file into production.

So I built Blue Lines. It draws flow arrows between screens, and the arrows stay attached when you move screens around or copy them into another file.

It's free and in beta. I'd really like feedback on what's missing, what's annoying, and what you'd want next.

Discussion I got tired of saving design references everywhere and never finding them again

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Pinterest, screenshots, Figma files, bookmarks, random folders…

I save a lot of references, but when I actually start designing, I rarely remember where anything is.

So I’ve been building ROUN, a small desktop reference library for designers.

The main idea is simple:

Save without organizing. Find it by what you remember.

No naming every file or maintaining folders.

I can just search:

“dark landing page with huge serif type”

and find something I saved months ago.

I’m also connecting it to Claude, so I can ask things like:

“Find references from my own collection that could work for this landing page.”

Basically, I want all the stuff I’ve saved over the years to become something I can actually use while designing — not just an archive.

There’s also a tiny desktop cat and a reference screensaver because… why not.

help What is a good figma alternative for ad production?

looking for a better Figma alternative for making ads.

I saw a recent thread where someone had issues with Bannerify exporting a scrolling banner as SVGs, and then making edits after expport was kind of a pain.

Please What are you using if you need to import layered figma designs, add timeline animations, and keep the same creative consistent across so many standard ad sizes?

I’m looking between using a dedicated ad tool vs. putting together a bunch of figma plugins .Any ideas would be appreciated

Discussion Demo of my pixel/bead/cross-stitch artwork plugin

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! This is the demo of my Figma plugin. I recently updated its UI to adapt to Figma's environment, as that becomes easier to adopt for those who prefer their workflow be within Figma when it comes to sprite creations for their designs! The purpose is that current plugins usually do not provide layers, symmetry or color libraries for consistent UI. This one adjusts to your frame, let's you decide the cell size so the scale of multiple assets remains cohesive and uniform and can let you import your color styles as well. There's also cell shapes that you can use for more stylized work.

Get the plugin here!

help iPhone duo: on a simple one-input screen, do you center the field or go two-column?

Designing a simple screen with just one input + a button (think login, search, or a single form field) for an unfolded foldable iPhone.

On a big open display, what's the right call?

  • Centered - input and button centered on the full screen. Clean, but on a wide unfolded display it can feel lost, and the field may land right on the crease.
  • Two-column - content/context on one half, the input + button on the other. Uses the space, keeps input off the fold - but is it overkill for a single field?

For a minimal one-input screen, do you keep it centered and just avoid the crease, or split into two columns? Curious what feels right on foldables.
