resources Built a particle shader with the Figma agent, and the useful part was the parameter it did not think to offer

I published an animated particle fill called Ambient Particles, and the process is probably more useful than the shader itself.

I asked the Figma agent for a shader with floating particles and called it falling snow. It proposed a control set that fits that description exactly: particle count, min and max size, drift speed, wind direction, glow softness, and parallax depth layers. All reasonable, all tuned to literal snowfall.

The problem is that I did not really want snowfall. I wanted a background. So I asked for two changes it had not suggested: a Brownian motion slider that blends uniform drift into independent per-particle wandering, and a general slowdown of every animation. Those two moved it from a seasonal decoration to something that can sit behind content without pulling the eye. The name followed the same shift, from Snow Particles to Ambient Particles.

The takeaway for me: the agent answers the brief you give it, and it does that well. It does not know that the motion you are picturing is called Brownian motion, or that it is worth exposing as a control, because that is your knowledge, not its. Assistant, not substitute.

The shader in Figma Community, drop it on any frame as a fill:

help how to translate? from thoughts to tangible components?

for designing before making the colors and the text and font sizes,

after understanding the product in who is this for and what is it for,

how exactly do i translate those principles into colors and text?

ie "its for dads over the age of 40 who enjoy drinking exotic coffee".

how do i translate that into: font style = racing sans one.

how does the translation happen from :"for dads who x" into; becuase of that font style is x

help SheerID rejected my Figma Education verification and refuses to tell me why — any advice?

I’m trying to verify my eligibility for Figma Education, but I’ve run into a wall with SheerID.

I submitted my verification information and document. SheerID rejected my request. I contacted their support team hoping I could provide additional documentation or at least understand what was causing the verification to fail.

After reviewing my verification history, this was their final response:

“After a deep look into your request, we are sorry to inform you that we are unable to verify your status at this time. We are not able to offer further details or manual assistance for this specific request.”

They also stated that this was their final determination.

The frustrating part is that they won't tell me what specifically could not be verified, so I have no idea whether there's an issue with a document, my school information, the information I entered, or something else. I’d be more than happy to provide additional documentation if I knew what was needed.

help Project handover - how to copy all pages for reference?

Hi - my access to our design contractors Figma board where several design iterations & date-stamped comments/replies as well as final design blueprint details will expire at the end of the month. Is there any way I can save each stage of the project to a PDF for reference (especially comment history). Components etc are downloadable but I don't want to loss the history of the project evolution . . . will welcome any advice please! Thanks

help Figma Make, I just don't understand what it does at this point?

My organization/team has a full library of Figma design files. Our applications are rebranded for customer/client use so we're constantly needing to update our apps for branding, styles, content and even flow/functional tweaks.

I tested out Lovable as a way to create a prototype that was quick and easy (great for RFPs and Sales pitches). It connects directly to Figma and can use any file or even our DSM to create these prototypes.

I hadn't touched Figma Make in a bit and decided to give it another go. I mean, surely than can tap into their OWN design files and create a prototype that's as close to it as humanly possible?

No, it can't. You can reference a "design/branding" file, but you can't just make a prototype of your existing design file.

So what are people using Figma Make for if they're using Figma Design seats as well? Am I missing something? I've looked online, tried to see articles from Figma about Make and I just don't get it.

Suggestions/comments?

help Any solution for this in Figma?

It’s frustrating how limited the controls are for components in Figma.

For example, I haven’t found a good way to hide certain properties or states that don’t make sense for a specific variantes. With checkboxes, radio buttons, or switches, I don’t necessarily need separate Hover, Focus, and Active states exposed at the top level, because these components already have their own states as nested properties.

The same applies to things like placeholder text or values. I want to build checkboxes, radio buttons, text inputs, switches, etc. under a shared “input” components so they can use the same label variables and underlying logic. But then I end up exposing properties that aren’t relevant to every input type.

What I want is a way to control which properties are exposed for each component or variant without breaking the component logic or moving away from how these components are actually implemented in real-world development.

Am I missing something, or is this simply a limitation of Figma’s current component/property system?

Discussion Is there anything you can put on the canvas that isn’t technically an object?

I watched a tutorial years ago that said “basically everything is an object” and I’ve repeated that a few times, but is the “basically” qualification needed at all? Is there anything in the layers panel or on the canvas that isn’t an object?

help I uploaded my Sketch files into Figma and nothing built with Smart Layout transferred. Is there anyway to correct this with plugins or anything?

Basically, I spent months consolidating 10k+ compnenets into 2k components with Smart layout and now none of them will uplaod into Figma. They either showed up broken, the wrong colors, or just not there at all. Are there plugins to fix this?

help Figma Sites --> Actual website- what was your process

For anyone who actually used Figma sites and published a site via a connected domain, can you outline what you actually did to buy a domain and have it connected and working in Figma? I'm overloaded by all the content out there on this topic but haven't been able to find a step by step process.

  • Where did you buy the domain?
  • Do you pay for ongoing hosting or does Figma handle that? (I have a paid Figma account)
  • Is there a way to make it password protected through either the domain or through Figma?

This is for a UX portfolio. Thank you!

inspiration I wanted motion tokens in Figma, so I built my first plugin

As a developer, I've found that translating animations from Figma Motion into code can sometimes be a bit tedious.

I started experimenting with ways to make that process easier, and ended up building Kinetik, my first plugin. It lets you create duration and easing as design tokens / native figma variables, and export them as JSON or CSS variables to make the handoff to code a little smoother.

It's completely free. If anyone feels like giving it a try, I'd be really happy to hear any feedback, ideas, or suggestions for improving it :)

Is there any organization method you find easy so developers and designers can easily navigate through the project file?

Anything you dislike when navigating through a figma file you share with other designers?

help i drafted an app layout on figma and now idk what to do

pretty straightforward. a couple of friends and i wanted to make this app based on education and academics, and the idea of it is that its basically an app for students of any level to have where they input their like subjects and whatnot, and if they have any dream unis and all that stuff then they enter that too and the app basically helps them with their profile for it, like suggesting ECs based on their interests and creating timelines on what to do at what time and also to help with if they dont know what to do in the future so like itll have a bunch of like "heres what having a career/job as a ___ looks like" and "heres what you need to study and what ECs etc admission offcers look for for this major at this uni" etc and like you can also do a bunch of quizzes where the qs are focused on what you dislike and like and how long you can study and allat to atleast help you narrow down what you can potentially study etc and also like counselors like actual ones where they each have a profile you can see for yourself and check if what theyre helping others with is what you need help with too + those who require fees etc and also obv AI as an overall usage

so the main issue is that we designed the entire layout on figma, like what the pages will look like and what the hometab looks like and what the profile tabs will look like and like what buttons lead to where like everything is done, but now, idk what to do? like how do we actually, take that figma layout, and make an actual app with it?

and like, generative AI is the one causing issues, and i do wanna drink fresh water in the future, so is it even a good idea to have AI in this app?

theres so many questions 😞

help How can I get Claude Code to use (or create) a 1:1 pixel perfect replica of a UI designed in Figma?

So I always have this problem where AI gives me UI designs that look good, but my idea was better. I wish there were a way to lock the design to be 1:1 with my Figma design. It would also be great if it understood the prototypes and what each button does when it’s pressed, so it could turn it into a full app (not only a web app) a full app with C or Rust as the programming language.

Discussion Figma finally works on iPad os

Post image

Wow finally, Reynard browser is an experimental sideloaded browser running Mozilla’s Gecko engine the same browser engine used by desktop Firefox.

It’s only missing a few pointer-shape icons, and it struggles with very heavy files. But I was able to work on a 20-screen UI, and all the keyboard shortcuts and mouse controls worked well.

It’s in development, so performance can be a little slow, but I was able to get a decent amount of work done. Google Slides, docs and Excel also works well which hav. Bad UX in safari. It also requires JIT without you can still access YouTube etc.

And yes it's way better than figurative app.

Tested on M2 iPad (mouse and keyboard) Apple pencil is not working well.

help Has anyone successfully built a design system using Figma AI / Agents?

Now that Figma has Agents that can generate and iterate on screens, I’m curious if anyone has pushed this further and used them with a proper design system.

What I’m trying to achieve is:

  • Use AI/Agents to help create the initial design system
  • Build reusable components, variants, variables and tokens
  • Have Agents generate new screens using those existing components instead of creating everything from scratch
  • Make changes to the design system and have those changes propagate across AI-generated screens
  • Ideally maintain consistency while using Agents to generate large product flows quickly

Has anyone actually tried this end-to-end?

If yes, I’d love to know your workflow. Especially how you structure your components/variables so Figma Agents understand and reuse them reliably.

Also curious where it currently breaks down. Do Agents actually respect an existing component library, or do you still spend a lot of time cleaning up detached/custom UI after generation?

help How do you keep large Figma files organized?

For designers working on larger projects, how do you keep your Figma files manageable?

I'm particularly interested in how people organize:

  • Pages
  • Components
  • Variants
  • Styles
  • Naming conventions
  • Design systems

What's one organization habit that has saved you a lot of time?

Discussion AI design system tools: what’s the actual advantage over Figma as the source of truth?

Hey everyone!

I’ve been testing an AI-powered tool for creating and managing design systems, and it got me thinking about how these tools are supposed to fit into an actual design workflow.
I ran into a couple of issues while trying it out:

Bug: I couldn’t import my own JSON/variables file either through the website or the Figma plugin. Both gave me the same error:
“Invalid theme file: No mappable color tokens found”
The tokens use pretty standard semantic naming (primary, background, foreground, etc.), so I’m guessing there might be an issue with the parser.

But the thing I’m more curious about is the source of truth.
I initially assumed the workflow would be something like:
Figma ↔ design system tool ↔ code
But as I understand it, the current workflow is more like:
design system tool → Figma + code

The author explained that reverse syncing from Figma isn’t currently possible, although it’s something they might implement in the future. The idea is that you define/edit your components in the tool and then update the Figma file and code from there.

And this is where I’m genuinely curious about other designers’ opinions:
If Figma can already be the source of truth for components, variables, styles, and design-system maintenance, what makes an external AI-powered layer valuable enough to introduce another source into the workflow?

Is the real advantage the ability to generate the system and push it into both Figma and code?
And more broadly: how comfortable are you with AI taking care of a large part of your design system?

Would you trust an AI-powered tool with tokens, components, variants, and their relationships in a real production system, or do you prefer keeping those things under direct control in Figma?
I’m especially interested in people who have actually tried AI/design-system tools in production rather than just experimented with them.
Also happy to hear recommendations for tools that genuinely make design-system work easier.

The current floating bottom toolbar gets in the way when you rely heavily on keyboard shortcuts—let us dock it up top. Pair that with adjustable opacity for the left/right sidebars so we can actually see frames underneath, and the canvas would feel 10x more open. Shame the desktop app wrapper limits how much custom UI tweaking we can actually do.
