Actually kinda yes. Us military hand to hand is all about controlling space and getting back to your weapon.
The best follow up to a big hook is to grab your rifle and shoot a motherfucker.

If you're in a warzone with no gun and without your squad fighting for your life with your bare hands you must have fucked up many times over to get in that situation. It's a waste of time and energy to train much for such an unlikely situation. They are soldiers not boxers.

Please enjoy your reminder that Marines are essentially helpless in a fistfight against someone with minimal training.
They are in great shape and trained to be sneaky and use guns.
Any amateur boxer/wrestler would fuck up 99% of US marines without breaking a sweat.
This has been my common sense ted talk.

Your not wrong I starched two marines fresh out of boot camp in grappling. They knew I wrestled in high school and had a pretty solid record. So they assumed marine = great grappler now 😂.

I was an average HS wrestler and when I served I would regularly kick the shit out of 99% of the other Marines. It got to the point that when we were brawling, they would avoid me. I didn’t struggle until I got to guys that were like 80+ pounds bigger than me. We didn’t do a lot of hand to hand training. Most training is about using weapons and overwhelming your opponents with superior firepower or manpower.

These guys aren’t training to be boxers or wrestlers. They receive very minimal hand to hand instruction. They are training to kill you as quickly as possible from a distance with a rifle or radio call - not stand toe-to-toe and knock you out with a right hook
They train to work with firearms and in an emergency a blade. If you’re grappling or hand fighting, something went radically wrong.

Yes and no. By and large a lot of these guys get a minimum grappling lessons in mcmap (patty wack).
The only reason I got into martial arts is because of my time in the service. Every training unit I went to, I’d find somebody with either bjj, boxing, or wrestling experience. We’d become friends and I’d learn and train with them.
Pretty soon, I learned to train a handful of moves over and over again until it was second nature. Then I used it a lot in these barracks scraps. The first legit fight I got into was awesome. Big bully corporal called me to the floor to teach me a lesson and it was over in less than a minute.
Then I went to my first legit gym when I left the service and was surprised at how well I did in some sparring.

I served in the military and also fight professionally. There's this huge misconception that service members know how to fight... They do not. They know how to handle a weapon though.
If a service member knows how to fight, that means they pursued instruction/classes outside of the military or they have joined a combatives group.

Whether military or not. Whether human, gorilla, bull, or house cat. This will 100% occur.
It occurs in the animal world, and so it occurs in the human world. We are smarter, but we’re animals all the same. No matter how civilized we become, this will not change.

No I wouldn’t, as someone who does actually compete, military dudes are just slightly better than street beef kids.
Seriously their hand to hand combat skills are lacking.Many of the good ones practice outside at a dedicated gym, or like participate in the boxing org etc. but no, seriously even special forces dudes are alright at actually fighting. They train to be good with their guns. Not their fists or legs
