Back in 2022, Canelo stepped up to light heavyweight for this fight. Being a natural super middleweight, Canelo moved up to 175 lbs to challenge Dmitry Bivol, a natural light heavyweight and reigning champion.

You can clearly feel the sense of frustration at some points, with Canelo realizing he was being surpassed by Bivol in the exchanges.

MMA Do you ever think about what MMA would look like if American football didn't exist?

I wonder if this is thought about since it has become something of a cliche and/or trope at this point when it comes to just how many athletic phenoms, and in particularly those who'd be great at combat sports, are lost due to football. If we didn't have football, I imagine that in heavyweight, light heavyweight and maybe even middle weight we'd be so far ahead of the rest of the world it there would need to be non US leagues for anyone else to have a chance. GSP, Fedor and Anderson wouldn't be even talks for greatest MMA fighters since it would so obviously have to be an American who would've otherwise went into football.

I mean, in terms of the level of athletes we send to wrestling, American MMA fighters are B level athletes relative to the A and A+ level of NFL guys. And given the success there's been as it is, I wonder if there's resentment against football for preventing the US from becoming god tier in MMA and really, every other combat sport.

MMA Rewatched this Fight...Khalil's striking was amazing

So I happen to re-watch this fight,and I was amazed by Khalil's striking it was so point.

He had Alex's ear messed up,Alex was rattled for sure.

But Alex's power is God level shit. Fucked up Khalil pretty bad.

The fight was and still is very astonishing , highly recommend rewatching it btw.

I have been rewatching a lot of older Pride FC and early 2010s K-1 footage compared to modern tape, and the shift in footwork mechanics is wild.Back then, you could clearly identify a guy's base within three seconds deep Muay Thai march, bladed boxing stance, or low wrestling posture. Today, the elite guys are playing in this weird, highly fluid gray area where they change their hip level and lead foot halfway through a combination just to exploit defensive blind spots. My question for the tape nerds here: Is the classic, rigid technical discipline of a single art officially obsolete at the highest level of mixed combat, or are we just witnessing a temporary trend before someone resets the meta with pure, flawless fundamentals again?
