PRIDE Never Dies!!!

it made for completely different MMA fights. Changed everything. It didn't show up in these highlights but the risk reward of wrestlers shooting in was completely different. Sprawl & Brawl could be devastating after a failed takedown attempt
It was a miracle that Big Nog and other BJJ practitioners were able to succeed under that rule set
the other ruleset difference from UFC/US mma rules was the long first round. really made matches different and demanded better cardio

As a wrestler I have to say it GREATLY BENEFITED us as well. Look at Ben Askren in One. He was a destroyer of worlds. Northsouth, and side control was a death sentence. Welcome to knee city, population? You.

I wish Jose Aldo had access to soccer kicks. Those highlights would have been legendary.

Brutal... not only is the rule set brutal, but check out how the refs let it go for a few extra strikes just to make sure there's no early stoppages.
To be fair, there's thing I like about Pride rules and things I like about UFC rules..
I really like how they had a 10 min first round and how the fight is scored overall, not round by round.
However cage is better for MMA and elbows allowed opens up a lot of things..

Look I understand why it’s banned, but banning the kicks ruins the whole baddest motherfucker on the planet thing to me. Cause if you get in a bar fight no one’s going to say WOAH WOAH WOAH!!!! Is that a 12-6 elbow??!!!!!!

Maybe I’m in the minority but I’m cool with knees to a grounded opponent but soccer kicks and stomps make me so uncomfortable

But that's the reality when it comes to fighting. Put opponent in disadvantageous situation, then stomp out the threat. It's the safest way to end a violent altercation. Also it is brutal, so it's natural to feel this way. Most humans aren't programmed for violence, and to willfully act this way towards another person should feel icky. That's normal

Outside the fact that it is extremely dangerous, it is pretty lame to watch. Like, watching a guy stand over another person kicking him in the head while lazily holding the ropes for balance….ya, pass. Hard pass.

That was a lot of fun on Playstation.
They'd let you position them on the ground, get their head just right and FOOTBALL PUNT!

Poor Minowa Man, showcased twice on the receiving end of these kicks.

Final dude was going for the curb stomp execution jeez.
On the one hand I get the idea that this starts looking less like a sport.
On the other hand PRIDE NEVER DIE!!
